Problem now is that all the other parties are in agreement that they will not collaborate with the SD. The PM is already throwing away his election victory. In the post-election interview he said he would immediately start negotiating with the Greens. The Green "party spokespersons" are acting very coy, and they will extract their pound of flesh.
Actually, given that the Greens is the third largest party (but only just) Sweden may actually find itself with a Green as a deputy PM. More important is the fact that it will in all likelihood destroy the gov'ts energy policy.
From an objective point of view this is ridiculous.
The government may risk one of the pillars of the its policies - something that can become increasingly important in the likely case we will see a second phase of the financial crisis, and possibly a military conflict in the Middle East within 4 years time (think Iran!).
Negotiating with the Sweden Democrats, who are newbies, would be so much easier, and probably a promise of a government investigation on the costs of the immigration policy, would do it for them.
Instead, the other parties will keep the SD on the outside, where they will have the possibility to criticize but not have to take any responsibility. If they play their cards right - and it is not that difficult, all they really need to do, is to show the voters that they are not as awful as the critics will have them - they will grow and make an even better showing next time.
Politicians must be the most stupid animal species ever - except the voters of course, who time after time hand over the powers to govern them to such idiotic creatures.

Had I not given up my Swedish citizenship, they’d get my vote.
I really hope they will be able to keep it together. All SD really has to do, given the over-the-top propaganda in the media and by the other political parties, is to show that they are not fire-breathing, baby-devouring monsters.
The story of Ny Demokrati (if you remember) is a memento, though. We had a party in our parliament already 1991 who wanted to put paid to the excessive immigration. However, the implosion of that party opened the doors to the policies that have ruled Sweden from then until possibly now.
PS: SD got more than 10% in your (and mine) old home town.
I just fear that the Social Democrats and Moderates will come to some corrupt agreement.
