[As I said, there will be a rebellion that makes the Civil War look mild........... ]
What we really need to do it trick the people living on the coasts that it would be to their benefit to seceed the “flyover country” to the “hicks” living there. Our side needs to act like that is a bad idea so they will think it is a good idea and then begrudgingly accepting it with a hidden smile at the 11th hour.
I suspect that everyone would dump their 401k and pay the stupid tax (it’d be this one-time bump for the national economy)...and then we’d be right back to square one on retirement bailout for state pensions.
One would have to be really desperate and admitting that it’s a disaster for the state pension funds.
I have no doubt that there are those in the government looking for ways to incrementally increase how they can tax our retirement, but that’s not what the article proposed.
What you are suggesting is a reasonable concern. What the article is suggesting is ridiculous.
I see nothing in the article that says they will not try the incremental approach.
As sen by many of the respondents on this thread, we know they could never get away with the whole banana.
But they can with a ‘soak-the-rich-they-can-afford-it” approach as the way to get a leg in front door.

The Tea Parties need to make this issue one top priority.
If people know, key word KNOW, what is in the forcast and how they will be tricked, they will rebel.
They will steal your money, spend it, and you will be left with worthless Government IOUs that will never be paid.
Maybe they will adopt the straighforward UK approach. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2592709/posts
