I sent the letter to a blogger named Amy Alkon (the
Advice Goddess), who has rigorously studied the Quran and Hadith, and this is what she had to say about it:
"Thanks so much -- unfortunately, there's some taquiyya in here (lying in service of Islam). It is not Sharia but the Quran that advocates much of this and the Hadith (words and traditions of Mohammed and those close to him) that advocates the rest. Sharia merely carries that stuff out."
