Local Media is the cheerleader for State and local government. They take money from government at all levels. Our local newspaper, the Fairfield California Daily Republic takes money from the US Air Force for the base newspaper AND they drop it off on our doorstep off base, too. They also echo like mynah birds any allegation the police department makes “the suspect did so and so”-—Even if what the cop’s are saying is LYING (later proven in court)-—That’s their MO!
I tried going to the FBI over the CHP falsified accident report and presented all the circumstantial evidence (news paper report about the driver’s business connection to the CHP, accident scene photos taken before the tow trucks arrival not matching the police report etc.
Even though my wife is a minority they still wouldn’t help. But this is California, a lawless failed state.
Nah. Kingman's long been a sore spot with drivers from out of state getting tickets for crap.
I will say, however, that my ticket near Kingman (in 1991) was well earned. I was doing 90-plus in a 55. The cop was real nice - he wrote the ticket in such a manner as to not require towing of my vehicle nor jailing of me (IIRC over 85 MPH anywhere on public roads in AZ at the time was an automatic reckless driving and possibly jail time/impound vehicle). I'm certain my Davis-Monthan AFB sticker didn't hurt, nor the fact that I simply pulled over and waited for him after my detector lit up. I knew I was caught. Making him catch up to me to pull me over would likely have ticked him off.
I live in Rio Rancho (near Albuquerque), they exist. They happen all over the metro area - just not on the freeways or the really big highways. Usually, they'll be on a large side street, or even some of the smaller streets in problem areas. They happen just about every weekend over the summer, more so during holiday weekends.
I guess NM has either a lot of drunks or a lot of dishonest cops...... or both. We will be heading that way soon on a trip to Las Vegas, I’ll drive carefully.
If you're coming through on 40, you'll be okay if you watch your speeds.
As far as cops go - I've lived here 5 years and been pulled over once and given a warning for speeding. I can say I deserved more than a warning, but the officer was nice, I was nice, and it worked out.
I can also say in my five years here, I've seen exactly one DUI checkpoint (crossed the road perpendicular to it, and didn't get caught up in it). I don't get out much at night, and usually am back home by 8 PM on weekends (kids). The checkpoints don't usually get rolling until later.
Be careful around Kingman, AZ, though, I can certainly corroborate the speed trap stories from there (cops were hiding everywhere when I went through in July), even though the scam referenced here is new to me.
I’ve heard that that little spit of Arizona you pass thru on I-15 going from St. George, Utah down into Nevada can be quite a revenue source for AZ....
I've heard it, too. The last time I went through that little slice was in 1994, though, and I didn't encounter anything but bright, sunny skies (oh, and really boring stretches of road).
