OH! there he is!!
black bears here in NY....in my hunting camp which we use as a vacation spot in the summer, there is a resident sow who shows up every other year or so with a couple of cubs in tow.....we keep our distance the best we can...but when I go up onto the hill (its all hill, steep hill) I go with a stout magnum handgun on my hip or carrying a short barreled shotgun with slugs. (black bears in NY have topped the 600lb mark....)
Bears are nice to have around, but if I accidently get between mom and cubs I will do what ever is necessary to leave quickly, but I am not going to get mauled by momma.
