Unlike the great swells of the open seas, the Great Lakes in storm develop a vicious "short chop" which defies conventional seamanship. Many ghosts out there as a result.

Must’ve been pretty good rat-catchers to get their names listed somewhere.

Great story; great find. Amazing - and no doubt, particularly meaningful for next generation per families involved.

Would love to see final 'story efforts' per videos/production.

The location of 'The Mighty Fitz" is well known but not disclosed to the public. Underwater photos are posted at various sites. Google them up if interested.

The Fitzgerald was found years ago. It's bell was brought up and is now the central piece of the Fitzgerald Memorial.

Superior between the two. But Thunder Bay is by far the worst.

There's a nice video taken by the underwater divers at the Journal Sentinel site: VIDEO

It's only 2 min. long and worth watching.

According to the map, it LOOKS like the wreck was found in central Florida, he he.

Amazing video, just in showing how well-preserved much of that is.

Amazingly clear video. You can make out the wheelbarrel on the deck perfectly.

Those underwater wrecks are spooky.

All 17 people aboard and the ship's two cats, Dewey and Watson, were lost.

At least the two cats are remembered. Too bad the 17 human beings remain anonymous.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
of the big lake they called “Gitche Gumee.”
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
when the skies of November turn gloomy.

It was turning abeam to the storm that sank this ship. They should have left the schooner to fend for herself.
