Two of the most mature, responsible and honorable men I have ever known were all that by the time they were 16. The sons of a friend of mine. They didn’t get that way by being babied.
She could be learning a great skill to make a good living, rather than wasting time and somebodies money floating around the ocean! And her parents could not let her do that at her young age if they really love her. What is going on?
Oh how I agree with you.
But how do you reconcile that with your previous comment that they shouldn't worry about the real, monetary costs that their adventures bring them?
You said the "Australians" are paying for it. Just who is that?
I’m with you. These mewling idiots make me sick. Our forefathers must be saying “WTF?” about us right now.
I think you meant to go a little farther back in time.
Leif Ericson
Around the year 982 Eric the Red sailed to Iceland. He landed on the coast of Greenland. He founded the first colony there. His son named Leif Ericson began exploring the area. He reached the North American mainland around the year 1000.
Prince Henry
spent his entire fortune funding many voyages of exploration as well as projects in navigation, ship design, astronomy, and mapmaking. His expeditions included the islands of the Azores, Madeira, and the Cape Verde Islands, and the African coast as far as present-day Sierra Leone.
And we all the know the rest of this story....
Christopher Columbus
dreamed of becoming a sailor. At age 14 he made his first voyage on an Italian ship. Columbus also read books about the world such as the one written by Marco Polo. Columbus wanted to reach the Indies by sailing west. He tried to raised the money for this expedition in Italy and Portugal, but no one would give him the ships he needed. Finally Columbus went to the king and queen of Spain. They gave him three ships; the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria...
...He landed on the shores of America. From that discovery adventurous people with a hearty spirt settled and about 500 years later a 16-year-old girl took to the seas repeating the quest of the great sailors before her.
Notice the flag on that vessel.
If that is not enough for you, she is an American. Have you lost the spirit. Are you so beaten down by your government that you have become sheeple, lost, a complaining coach potato?!
I hope she gets a new mast and finishes her adventure! That's the American way, or at least it used to be.
In other words, stop your bellyaching and start rooting for the home team!
You don't think this father had an affect on his daughter's goals?
Ooh rah! Go, Abby!!!
Very nice.
Who is funding this young lady’s rescue? What was her objective?
I believe Quantas donated the flyby, and various other sponsors are pitching in.
Her objective was to sail solo around the world... and write a book about it.
Who funds the rescue of people who have auto accidents?
Her objective was to sail solo around the world... and write a book about it.
Oh goody. Hope she's successful and never has to work another day in her life.
Thanks Dad! ....and the taxpayers who bailed us out.
Junior doesnt' get an Airbus A330 when he wrecks on his way to the grocery store.
So what? There are tens of thousands of auto accidents each year. The cost is far higher.
I believe the Australian government said they are picking up the tab.
Can't say for sure, but the Aussie's generosity may have something to do with an earlier rescue (1942) in the Coral Sea.
Now that's the spirit!
Abby’s got the spirit. The American spirit.
Think hard now.
Who is picking up the tab?
A wealthy teenage American is stranded.
I'll repeat it again.
Who is paying the tab?
