You obviously misunderstood my comment.
If you’re only now starting to doubt that Ocrapa was a
Constitutional scholar, you might be a tad slow.
‘Course, you may also be under stress, too so I’m not gonna
pick on you much.
LOL
“It’s not government that is inherently bad, but rather Obama’s government.”
Had any administrations lately that you thought were good?
“Heres what negates Obies argument: ‘Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.’
No matter how innocent and idealistic a candidate for high national office is before he or she is elected, something about being elected begins to erode that persons idealism and morality.”
I think you are onto something here. For a politician, being a success eventually comes to mean being elected and then re-elected. Everything else becomes secondary. And to win elections means you have to raise a lot of money, so they end up pandering to the money boys. You also learn to win elections by giving money away (medicare, farm price supports, social security...). It’s always popular. After a while, it doesn’t matter what is good policy, they just think in terms of what’s good for being re-elected. And the best bet is to give people what they want, which always includes lots of “free” government services and lower taxes. Never mind that the two are mutually exclusive.
As for the Constitution, they learn to pay it lots of lip service, but they know that so long as the public believes that sometimes it’s necessary to ignore it, especially as regards “those people”, that they can pretty much do what they want.
Now the question is, what can you do about it? Are “We the people” really capable of good self-government? I’m not sure.
Ha! I’m sure even Obama knows that! :-)
Yes, getting re-elected is the primary goal after accumulating money and influence. Except that last month - March, was it? - some Congresscritters seemed to throw away their chance of re-election in order to get that crooked piece of legislation they call health care passed.
