The subject of my post was that the drug lords won't suddenly become law-abiding citizens if pot is made legal. Apparently you believe they will. How naive.
I believe it will increase the level of violence as they vie for "market share" for other blackmarket products.
Don't know. But I believe the level of violence would escalate as the different groups vie for "marketshare" of other blackmarket products.
Suppose CA votes to legalize. Do you think CA has the legitimate prerogative under the 10th Amendment to enact such a program? Or do you think the Commerce Clause authorizes fedgov to shut it down?
I'm not a constitutional expert. If you truly want my non-expert opinion, I would say that CA has the right to legalize. And surrounding states have the right to set police at the borders to lock up anyone who crosses state lines while high or while holding pot. (Good way for them to increase revenues. Levy heavy fines instead of locking them up.)
It seems clear the level of violence would only increase as the different groups vie for "marketshare" of other blackmarket products. So if the point is to increase the violence, then by all means, legalize pot. Personally, I don't think an increase in violence would be a good thing.
“It seems clear the level of violence would only increase as the different groups vie for “marketshare” of other blackmarket products.”
Clear to whom?
I’d point to history vs the henny penny argument...
Joe Kennedy got rich off of prohabition....
“So if the point is to increase the violence, then by all means, legalize pot. Personally, I don’t think an increase in violence would be a good thing”
No...the point is to remove the black market value of Pot...just like the point was to remove the black market value of Booze...
When is the last time you heard two beer distibutors going to war over a sales territory??
Clear to me. If these gangs are now fighting over the selling of pot, how much more so will they fight when the "pool" of blackmarket products is reduced.
I can't believe that people think these gangs are going to just shrug their shoulders and say "oh well" and allow their wallets to get thinner. How naive.
Joe Kennedy got rich off of prohabition....
And? The mafia got rich off prohibition too. When it was repealed, they just went on to other things. If pot is legalized, these drug lords will just go on to other things, fighting tooth and nail for a bigger "marketshare" of other blackmarket products.
No...the point is to remove the black market value of Pot
And that gains us what exactly?
Like I said...the henny penny argument...
The sky will fall....
:::rolls eyes:::
Strawman...dont tell me what I do, or do not, believe...
I can point directly to the repeal of prohabition as a model...
You are tossing out an endless string of “what if’s” and doing the fear monger dance...
Yes, a model that shows the thugs don't just become model citizens when one source of revenue is taken away.
You be speak English real good like.
You don’t remember the Kennedy’s?
“I can point directly to the repeal of prohabition as a model...”
“Yes, a model that shows the thugs don’t just become model citizens when one source of revenue is taken away.”
Buckley agrees with me...while Rangle agrees with you...

Personally, I don't agree with Rangel that anyone who sells drugs should go to jail for life.
My argument is that it is silly to say the problem with the Mexican drug lords is going to go away if pot is legalized. They will simply concentrate their efforts on other blackmarket products. Would you agree with that premise? If not, what exactly do you think will happen?
Do you think the level of violence among the Mexican drug lords will decrease or increase if pot is made legal? Why?
Are you one of the resident potheads here?
Irrelevant: no one is making that absurd argument.
What it *will* do is eliminate the profit motive for selling illegal pot - they could not compete with large manufacturers and home growers.
It will cut off the current income stream from that crop.
And that benefits me how? I believe it will increase violence levels, and that's not a good thing. People who have small amounts of pot aren't generally put in jail if that's all that's going on. So why is this a good thing for me?
