I agree, it was a great openning (except for some of the singing) but as a whole, they did good

they can easily slow the track down...they can make the ice a little softer and most bobsled/luge tracks have multiple starting points if the track gets to fast...

Men's downhill postponed today because of "slushy" conditions.

So we have had one person killed, the olympic torch lighting went wrong and now not enough snow? NOT A GOOD OMEN.

One U.S. slider says that some blame should be placed with Canadian Olympic organizers for not granting international athletes more access to the course before the Games. The Vancouver Organizing Committee did add extra training time for the sliding course because of its difficulty, but U.S. athletes told SI that they had had only around 40 practice runs, while the Canadians had hundreds. “The selfishness of the Canadian sliding federations just killed somebody,” the athlete says. “We all know about keeping countries off the track [strategically], but at the world championships in Lake Placid [last year] they knew the course was difficult, so the track manager left the course open. We didn’t always like that, but no one got hurt.”

It does make you proud to be an American when you see how hard these athletes worked to get to their ultimate dream - the Olympics. I am glad that you share my setiment.

"I made the mistake of looking at the images from the luge crash. Horrible!"

I had the TV turned to NBC, but the sound on mute with closed-caption. I was on the computer and happened to look up when they showed the video. I was surprised they'd even shown it. It was so horrible I had to turn my head, and the channel when they showed it a second time.

have their real lives disrupted

How on Earth are you disrupted in your life because of the Olympics???? That is pretty unbelievable statement unless you miss the TV that is showing that is not on because of these Olympics.

Olympics? Blech!

is it over yet??

My sentiments exactly. It is just a political feelgood gathering that costs many many dollars. And for what? Commercial endorsements for the winners? Remember the big winner in the last summer Olympics couldn't wait to get a bong hit once he got home. YAWN

Huffpo has graphic pics posted of the rescue attempt. I couldn’t click the video after seeing those images.

I was referring to the people that live in an Olympics city.

I dozed off before the torch malfunction, must have been during one of those riveting speeches. I was hoping to find the snafu on video.

This was a bad choice for a winter olympics location. It is too close to the ocean making weather conditions completely unpredictable.

Sorry to disappoint here, BUT in my IMHO the opening ceremony was a HUGH disappointment...I kinda felt sorry for Canada. The screen visuals were nice but the rest stunk! And WTH that dike Lang singing Hallelujah what point did they want to make?? Anne Murray should have SANG something!! Sorry, BUT I give it a C+!

Maggie, I came across this on a Olympic forum.

"NBC’s fairly stringent with Olympic content on the web, but if we come across video, we’ll post it up.

Figures..No-Broadcasting-Company.
