Alaska, that is cool, which company did your heater work?
AK has ‘licensed’ plumbing contractors that are non-union.
You can obtain a fitness card without being union

Last fire was 10+ million in damage to a large condo complex / building - fire started when non-union plumber/pipefitter was welding pipes in an elevator shaft.....

Lot of non-union labor here, as well as union labor. Lots of union welders from Alaska were woring in LA because at tleast they could work.
BTW, a ‘plumber/pipefitter’ can weld pipes, not structrual steel. For the oil patch, a special fitness card is required for ‘hot taps’. At least as I understand things.
Alsways seemed like honest work to me. While I did welding in HS, I didn’t know anyone in the union to get an appritance slot. So, joined the military - best move I ever made.
Thanks for the reply / post.
Job I took mandated union membership - no choice.
I lasted 9 months, then found another job. Some nice folks but a whole lot of idiots & the work rules were just nutz.
I was wondering which union plumbing repair shop that you used to do your heater repair, that you were so pleased with.
I have never seen a plumber welding pipes.
Last fire? was that a plumber or a welder, and how many fires before that, zero?
