"I am wondering why these attacks on the Catholic faith are allowed while even the slightest bit of snark from a Catholic in defense against attacks by fundamentalists is “noted.”"

Jim Robinson's remark to me had nothing to do with the content of the post. It had to do with an off hand insult I made to a fellow freeper. I am fortunate to only have it noted.

Jim:

Who do you think has done more harm to America?

A. Solid conservative voters who consistently support conservative candidates and causes, but who happen to be atheists, agnostics, or Darwinists?

or

B. Believing Christians who support RINO's like Huckabee, or Rats like Bob Casey?

There seems to be a lot of criticism on FR directed at the first group and the first group only.

You and others are attacking and mocking our cardinals, our trust in the Holy Spirit, our understanding of the Bible ... shall I go on? WVKayaker said horrible things earlier in the thread; where is the condemnation? Catholics are not fundamentalists. We never have been and we never will be. But we are Christians.

Then the antecedent wasn’t very clear.

Cardinals that were brought into the discussion, but not by me. Evolution is at issue. If you believe that you are Lemur-related, thats OK by me, but that does not jibe with the Bible.

God selected one human being?

There were others at the time?

I thought Adam was the first created man.

WVKayakers words are beyond my control. It is just as demeaning to say we are not Created as described as to say that there was no Resurrection, as both positions are very supported by science.

lol. God could have all the lemurs and monkeys he wanted. He wanted a spiritual companion, thus He created Adam, a man, not a monkey

"Natural Law is one of that group that JR ranted against in this post, jumping into Creation threads to ridicule Creation and prop up evolution. If you equate evolution with Catholic faith, the issue is not with me."

Check my post #1751 and Jim Robinson's reply on post #1755.

God selected him; therefore he was the first man.

This is what Jews believe as well, if I am not mistaken. Biblical literalism regarding the creation story in Genesis is by no means the default interpretation by sincerely devout people.

It is just as demeaning to say we are not Created as described as to say that there was no Resurrection, as both positions are very supported by science. Neither of these are positions put forth by any Catholic in this thread, and therefore isn't even relevant to the discussion. I, for one, am arguing for an understanding of how science and faith can work together, not for a rejection of faith (or of science, for that matter).

" I, for one, am arguing for an understanding of how science and faith can work together, not for a rejection of faith (or of science, for that matter)."

Again, look to the words of our Pope:

It is the affair of the natural sciences to explain how the tree of life in particular continues to grow and how new branches shoot out from it. This is not a matter for faith. But we must have the audacity to say that the great projects of the living creation are not the products of chance and error. Nor are they the products of a selective process to which divine predicates can be attributed in illogical, unscientific, and even mythic fashion. The great projects of the living creation point to a creating Reason and show us a creating Intelligence, and they do so more luminously and radiantly today than ever before. Thus we can say today with a new certitude and joyousness that the human being is indeed a divine project, which only the creating Intelligence was strong and great and audacious enough to conceive of. Human beings are not a mistake but something willed; they are the fruit of love. They can disclose in themselves, in the bold project that they are, the language of the creating Intelligence that speaks to them and that moves them to say: Yes, Father, you have willed me.

I will not begrudge or belittle those who believe differently than me, but I will not passively accept insulting my belief system.

And therein lies your lie. You DO begrudge, as you chase any Creation thread; you do belittle, as you participate in those threads to demean those who do have a literal Creation belief (i.e. The Bible is True, not a fairy tale)

Same as was told to the others in your little thread-chasing group (xcamel, Buck W., ElectricStrawberry, et al), you believe in evolution, fine, have your threads, but if you choose to enter Creation threads and spread discord, expect return fire. I do not believe, even in your case, that we have Lemur-like ancestry.

Science is the one of the means to understanding God’s creation. ...For a religious person to view science as something to be feared and shunned

Specifically, what science are you talking here?

Untrue. NL was/is an evo advocate. I have spent countless replies on him.

Science can work with Faith and I welcome it, especially where it shows the truth of it all. But if faced with a choice to believe the Bible or believe an AGW type, well, I’ll go with the Lord, thank you.
