Who in heck could read that and still ask if she’s for amnesty? ‘...they...(Illegal aliens) should not be in our country.(Must get out).’ Duh.

[::nods sympathetically::] Seriously! You'd think she'd laid out some particularly complex Boolean algebraic equation in ancient Urdu, the way some here continually insist upon sub-sub-sub-sub-parsing something as admirably plain and straightforward as that. ;)

“Good night.”

What happened? Did your mother just realize you were still up on a school night?

Stop spreading this lie. You'be been smacked down on this one before.

Her former statements were that there are ALREADY ways for illegals to get right with the law. They in no way advocated a blanket amnesty.

Your lack of ethics and morals are really starting to wear thin...

You have to understand some of these people have been clinging to this for over a year, to them this is like finding out there is no tooth fairy.

But seriously: global warming, birth certificates, now illegal immigration. Is my girl BRINGING IT or what?!!!

In a word - Booooyah!
And to the current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue:
snap, smack, and bitch slap! (hope it hurts worse in the morning)

There goes the last ‘grey area’ I had with the Governor...

Well welcome on-board then. Whatever the subject is I trust Sarah Palin to be on the RIGHT side of it. It seems to come natural to her.

“I listened to the clip. What she says sounds promising, BUT she did NOT address amnesty/CIR, now did she? “

She danced all around it. Like you, I’m still waiting.

Well now you are just making it up .... “possibly before”. “Possibly” is making things AFAIC.

“political reasons” is generally correct - but lets be honest - she was a VP candidate on an presidential ticket on a campaign that started well before she joined, and like all conservatives wanted to beat obama (did you?). Can you think of a quicker way of losing then everybody in a campign expressing there own views?

“flip-flop”. I think most people, not you obviously, that palin does not equal McCain are interested in her real positions. I doubt anyone is judging her on following a script, except you.

Have you read her book? She admits she was a team player, keen to know what the script was to help the ticket?

That is what VPs do, or don’t you know?

Not making anything up. It’s possible that she held that “view” before the election or are you suggesting she changed her public position twice for political reasons?

At the risk of losing quickly (sic), she “expressed her own view” by disagreeing with McCain on energy issues, presumably per your logic (or lack thereof) because she had credentials. IIRC, she said she was trying to change McCain’s mind on ANWR. Did her lack of credentials prevent her from trying to change his mind on a path to citizenship, a code term for amnesty? Does she have those credentials now?

I never said that Palin equaled McCain. I commented on the fact that she publicly shared one of his views on a critical issue while not publicly sharing one of his views on another issue, then asked you questions about your pretzel logic. A flip flop is a dramatic change in a position, usually for political expediency. Is the term only selectively applied?

Illegal immigration is a huge issue for Conservatives. Convoluted excuses for holding a disastrous opinion won’t cut it. This will be an issue in a primary. Do you really think “I compromised my principles to be a good RINO team player” is going to work?

I agree. I'm tired of getting my hopes up with these politicians. I want someone to come out and say, "We must not only close the border, but we must also deport the illegals who are already here. NO amnesty, 'path to citizenship' or anything else." The kinds of things Tancredo used to say. But of course, anyone with those views would never get the GOP nomination.

Me too.

she cannot be held to any statements made while running as the VP candidate for McCain... they were his policy statements and his alone.

You pinged?

....”interview Gov Palin states that we need to close the Southern border. She said that they are called illegal for a reason and if they can not follow the rules they do not need to be in this country.”

Oh, how very disappointing....it’s just that she keeps getting the opportunity to set the record straight and doesn’t...hmmmm, wonder why?

This is no different really than what she’s said before and what she told Univision, just before she stated that she was pro-”path to citizenship”. But, IF and when she changes her mind, and clearly states she opposes ANY path to citizenship, let me know! Then, I may begin to consider her, though my concerns would then be that she, let’s say, ‘dishonestly pretended’ to go along with McShamnesty and that she chose to be on a ticket with him knowing fully where he stood.

She could hardly contradict McCain coming from Alaska which doesn’t have an illegal immigrant problem.

While Alaska does not seem to have the illegal alien problem California or NJ has, there are illegal aliens, costing tax payers money.

per FairUS: "In 2006 we estimated that Alaskan taxpayers are currently burdened with annual costs of about $31 million because of illegal aliens residing in the state. That estimate was based on only expenditures for education, emergency medical care and incarceration."

Immigration Impact: Alaska

While there is lots to like about Sarah, one can't be too careful regarding a politician's position on immigration, illegals, border security, and guest workers.

Coming "down hard" on businesses is Obama-speak for, "Let's destroy small businesses who innocently hire illegals based on fake identification that's impossible to verify, and pretend we're going after illegals."

It's not a business's (big or small) responsibility to police every job applicant, it's government's.

>> Coming “down hard” on businesses is Obama-speak for, “Let’s destroy small businesses who innocently hire illegals based on fake identification that’s impossible to verify, and pretend we’re going after illegals.”

It’s not a business’s (big or small) responsibility to police every job applicant, it’s government’s. <<

And government has failed on that account. But I would say that there are many places that knowingly hire illegals that need their feet held to the fire. In Denver the city hires contractors to do outdoor work on their lawns, medians etc. They hire contractors who knowingly hire illegals, Both the City government and the contractors need to have their feet held to the fire for this.

The government needs to make it easier for businesses to hire legal citizens and to be able to check on the immigration status of individuals to make sure they pass. The left has killed off the E-verify programs etc. If you hire illegals you should be fined because that is just as illegal as being here illegally.

If the illegal has used false documentation, then they need to detain the illegal and grill them until they give the name and source of their fake ID and lay the hammer down on them too.

Just punishing the illegals isn’t going to affect the issue, just like punishing the drug users won’t work. You have to hit the entire supply and demand chain so that you remove the demand for illegal labor so that it is easier to hire legal citizens and the penalty for hiring illegals makes it unsavory to hire illegals. We need to poison the saccharine sweet sugar that is cheap illegal immigrant labor.

The “path to citizenship” in my opinion begins with a line in Mexico where they follow the standard legal process of entering the country that was setup and have been in use for 100’s of years. I am proud to be pro-immigrant, and that is as “Pro Legal Immigrant”. Maybe Palin should say she is “Pro Path to Citizenship” as it has always existed in this country.

Bull Crap. Businesses don't have the time or resources to make sure every piece of ID is valid. And they certainly don't have the time or resources to "detain" anyone. That's ridiculous.

E-Verify is only for government hiring and contracting, but it hasn't been killed all the way dead, yet.

You want to make the business sector responsible for illegal workers? Join the Democrat party because that's the Obama immigration policy. Obama killed all the Bush immigration directives that set up the factory/business raids, extraction, prosecution and deportation, in favor of holding businesses criminally liable. But Bush never got credit for his efforts anyway so it really makes no difference.
