I think you may not understand what the issue is with Germany. Germany knows they, (specifically the Nazi's) created the holocaust. They are appalled at their own guilt. Even those who were born long afterward are grieved by it. Just remember, Germany and Germans will carry the burden of it forever. They know it and have made it a crime to deny that it happened because they too wish to never forget. I guess it is part of their repentance. They will walk out because Ahmanutjob denies something that they know almost better than anyone can, (besides the Jewish people of course,) what really happened and they want everyone to know that they will not stand for anyone to deny it. That is the best I can explain it as it was explained to me by my Aunt who was a little girl in Hitler's Germany.
For contrast, look at the Russian approach. There, not only do they not apologize, it is becoming more and more illegal to mention Stalin’s even larger mass-murder during the terror of the ‘30s. Germany is the gold standard on how to behave after such an event.
Very arguably, the main reason they are overrun with arabs now, is that they could not bring themselves to exclude them because it seemed racist to them, and felt too much like their past. Poor decision, made for an honorable reason.
That's just stupid. Nazism is illegal in Germany unlike in the US. Germany takes the Holocaust very seriously. They have first hand knowledge of it and don't want a repeat.
I would definitely say that Germany has had first hand experience of it since it was the Germans that committed genocide. Of course, no one in Germany knew about it, or at least that is what all my German friends tell me. The truth is that the German people have no more love for the Jews today than they did before 1945. The French are even worse. While we are being honest here, America didn’t go to war to liberate the Jews, and there were those in the FDR White House that were aware of the Holocaust. My criticism with Germany’s show of outrage is that it is only a show. Germans in general could give a rats butt about Israel.
Well I was hoping for a few more...but these are the sane Countries. Glad to see they didn’t disappoint.
They knew their neighbors were disappearing. They were just to afraid to ask Why.
You´re denying the fact that Israel and Germany have a deep friendship since 1949, and that Germany is Israel´s second best ally, right behind the US. Military and armament support have been just one point, mutual visits from the head-of-state-level down to students exchanges another.
I am a German, and fully a philosemit.
It´s not out of guilt, it´s because of our responsibility for the present. Who knows better than Germans that the Jewish heritage needs to be protected against its enemies?
There is no greater support for Israel compared to our friendship with France, the Netherlands, Poland or Britain. We have strong bonds within the EU. The thing is, that we don´t need to repeat that all the time, unlike our relations to Israel. Israel´s future is at risk, so it needs our solidarity and support. Other countries should do the same as we do, but they fail. So, I wouldn´t say our support for Israel is under a general view outstanding, it is outstanding because the rest of the world fails! We don´t do more than what we should do when a democratic and free country is threatened by its terrorist neighbours.
It did.
“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction,”
Holocaust denial is pretty ugly.
