“Why Barack Obama won’t meet the Dalai Lama”
Because the Dalai Lama recognizes a higher power in the universe than the ‘bama?

Exactly. China holds over $1 trillion in US debt. He who pays the piper calls the tune. Obama is going over to China with his begging bowl as the world's largest debtor nation seeks more money from the world's biggest creditor nation.
The Chinese have huge leverage over the US. They can plunge our economy into chaos if they decide to pull out their money or lessen their investment in the US.
Tibet and human rights are no longer a major issue re China and our bilateral relationship.

Actually it’s more like the Chinese own America.
When you are a tenant living off the teat of the Chinese Govt, you don’t wanna piss them off.
And for all the fancy flowery rhetoric of the West about the Dalai Lama and Tibet, things have gotten far, far worse over the past decade for the Tibetans than they ever were.
How many divisions does Richard Gere have?

It is far easier to criticize the Sri Lankans for their human rights “abuses” in resolving the Tamil Tiger terrorists by killing them than to go up against the Chinese.
Human rights are absolutely out of the picture where China is concerned.
Who are the Uighurs, lol.

The greenies, ultra libs and the college community from top ranking schools in US have so called taken up the cause of Tibet but when push comes to shove, when its time to actually do some thing for Tibet its funny to see how they chicken out. All that furore over Tibet was just a cheap shill. The left has turn the Tibetan freedom struggle into a joke.

Its a sad day when the so called “most powerful man in the world”, the US President need China's permission to meet someone in the world. He isn't really the most powerful man in the world anymore.
To: Rookie Cookie
He could and should but obviously won’t.
A sad day. A principled stand would garner more grudging admiration from the Chinese than this kowtowing.
Free Tibet, heck, no! F*** Tibet is more like it.

I suppose Obama has already exposed a clear sign of weakness to the Chinese. Expect the Chinese to take full advantage of it.
To: Rookie Cookie
Exactly, if they can roll him on the Lama, basically a non issue to the Chinese, Tibet is firmly in their grasp, what else can we get him on.
Not a good way to enter a meeting/negotiation by telegraphing weakness to the other party.
He should meet him the day before the Chinese meet.
Strength and resolve garners respect, being a pushover merits contempt.

Barrack Obama is very comparable to Nehru, he has all the personality, charm and charism but internally he is a weakling just like Nehru. Tibet was just a bait thrown by the Chinese to size up Obama. Chinese know very well how to deal with Nehru/Obama types.
To: swarthyguy
Throwing baits is an age old tactics used before entering a negotiation and Chinese have centuries of mastery over this art.

Right up there with "The Minister for Administrative Affairs"
The latter, of course, was a UK TV comedy.
