Not only that, but it takes more energy to build a Prius than it does to make a Hummer H3.

The Chinese manipulate the prices of these rare earths to discourage development of alternate sources...Ah HA! They lower the price by fiat and that means they're dumping rare-earths on the US market!
We're DOOMED!

If you had bothered to read headsonpikes' post, you'd know that the Chinese were raising the price by restricting rare-earth exports, not "dumping" them on the US market.
Sheeeesh....

Now maybe you'll explain how manipulating the prices, by raising them, would be discouraging alternate sources?

Raising prices doesn't discourage alternate sources, dumping does.
They dumped in the past, forcing competition out of business.
Now that they have no competition, they jack up the prices and gouge the consumers.
If anybody else tries to enter the market, they'll simply undercut the price to eliminate the competition again... then they go back to gouging.

Raising prices doesn't discourage alternate sources, dumping does. That sounds familiar.

I'm glad you finally admitted expat_panama was right. You learn much faster than you used to.

Willie Green:
"...dumped in the past, forcing competition out of business. Now that they have no competition, they jack up the prices..."Steve Gorman: "China, the world's dominant rare earths producer, limits exports... ...One promising U.S. source is a rare earths mine slated to reopen in California by 2012."
--and the minute the mine opens, China will start dumping rare metals on the US market all over again. Well, actually, don't tell anyone but there really isn't any mine in California. It's just a fake cardboard set that's meant to fool the stupid chicoms into cutting prices.

In your dreams...
If you think Obama is gonna reopen a Kalifornicator mine during his re-election campaign, then you're dumber than I thought you were. LOL!

And it looks like your attention deficit disorder hasn't improved any.

that town wouldn't be Rock Ridge now, would it?No that place got incorporated into an adjacent Indian reservation and now everyone speaks Yiddish.
Come to think of it, we laugh about these old movies but that's where the whole "dumping --competition out of business --jack up the prices..." routine comes from. In the real life what happens is them that works hard comes out on top and the underachievers cry HEY NO FAIR NO FAIR!!.

LOL! Thanks for the reminder... I had just about forgotten about that...
The truth is, the endless soap opera just ain't as exciting as it was back in the good ol' days...
But now that you mention it, it would be nice to have a "bozo filter" here at FR...
that is a really handy feature to have... you simply put the bozo into an available slot and waalaa!!! it's as if they don't exist!!!
Sure saves a lot of aggravation not having to put up with the same line of BS day after day, month after month, year after year.
Yep... it's a crying shame FR doesn't have one of those.
Believe me... it sure could use one...
Probably save Jimmy a lot of aggravation and grief too!
