Democrats have a senior citizen problem.
Frustrated older Americans are packing the town halls on health care. They are incredibly passionate about their Medicare benefits. Polls show senior citizens largely disapprove of health care reform ideas so far.
And of course, they vote in larger numbers than any other demographic.
But so far, Democrats have focused much of their health care sales pitch on middle-class Americans and the uninsured a slight that has been noticed by senior citizens, who hold great influence with members of Congress.
At his Tuesday town hall event in New Hampshire, President Barack Obama made a point to reach out to seniors, noting the low support in polls for his health care proposals.
We are not talking about cutting Medicare benefits, Obama said, trying to assuage the audience.
But Obama is talking about finding hundreds of billions in savings from Medicare cuts supporters say will trim fat from the program including slashing $156 billion in subsidies to Medicare Advantage, a privately administered Medicare program.
Seniors are one of the most attentive and engaged constituencies, especially on health care issues, and weve seen that in the Medicare Advantage programs, said Robert Zirkelbach, a spokesman for Americas Health Insurance Plans.
A July 31 Gallup Poll found that just 20 percent of Americans aged 65 and older believe health care reform would improve their own situation, noticeably lower than the 27 percent of 18- to 49-year olds and 26 percent of 50-to-64-year-olds who say the same.
The senior citizen problem could pose a serious problem for the 2010 election cycle.
Older Americans turn out in much higher numbers than other age groups during midterm elections.(continued)

I consider what they want to do with senior citizens a form of genocide. Take that dimoKKKRATS.
Today’s seniors are the richest, most pampered, most spoiled bunch of parasites in the history of the world. Let them pay for their own health care.
He does not care. He is sure he can win with illegals, SEIU/ACORN, voter fraud, minorities, unions and liberals.
He does not care for seniors. I bet AARP is watching in horror. He also thinks he can fool enough seniors.
If I were a senior - I would be shocked but the ones who voted for him have no clue.
Baby boomers better wake up because their euthanasia red letter day with an ACORN govt health “expert” will not be far away.
President Carter didn’t armtwist the networks to be on for free, FOUR TIMES in six months and NOT TAKE NO for an answer.
Carter didn’t keep on in CAMPAIGN MODE after he was in the White House.
Carter kept his mouth shut more and showed himself less of a fool than Obama, by opening his more and more, going off script and confirming to the world he is one.

The tragic thing is, that there are so many of these ‘seniors’ that voted for this monster/madman/dictator because they are (were?) diehard-democrats. I was behind an elderly man yesterday in Aldis, God Bless him, he must have been 90-95 years old, once a proud man no doubt; had his ‘slacks’ and ‘white’ shirt on and was moving incredibly slow as he was unloading his cart. It was a huge effort for him to pull each item out but he finally got it done. He had no bags in which to pack his considerable amount and as he was exiting, I happen to be behind him. He was truly ‘shuffling’ as his cane hung on the cart handle. Well I couldn’t stand it and had to ask if he wanted a hand to which he replied, “No Ma’am, thank you ma’am” so I left him, got in my jeep and as I drove by him, he had “OUT OF IRAQ NOW” and “OBAMA” stickers on his car. And I just thought it so sad because he’s toast if this plan goes through.....as many others will be. But in spite of ALL the warnings.....they still voted for this monster and now look at what they are facing! (Sorry for the length of this)
53 % of Seniors voted for McCain. This constant BS of blaming seniors for Bozo’s election is just that, BS. Women, blacks and youths were the 3 biggest groups that voted heavily for Bozo(we won’t count illegals, dead people and mickey mouse), not to mention the vast majority of jews. Don’t blame us old guys, most of us didn’t vote for him. I voted Sarah and will do so if she runs, and maybe even if she doesn’t.
there are so many of these seniors ...
Did I say majority? No...I did not. I wasn’t ‘blaming’ anyone. It’s too late for that anyway. I apologize if I hit a nerve.
Don’t apoligize. It is a sign of weakness.
Hurrah! Turn ‘em into soylent green. Support the big O as he knows best. Don’t let them vote unless they continue to vote D.

Not weakness but respect (he did say he was a Senior). But I understand what you’re saying.

When I read your post it reminded of the line from a John Wayne movie. That is where I got the comment from.
In '08, right-leaning seniors didn't come out to vote in as many numbers as in previous Presidential elections.
They sure as hell are voicing their opinions now though.

Dear Governor Perry,
On March 30, 2009 the Texas House of Representatives passed HCR 50 affirming that the State of Texas claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment.
You have publicly supported this bill, and stated that attorney generals from all over the union could be getting ready to sue the US Government.
We are asking you to take the lead.
We are asking you to order the Texas Attorney General to publicly begin working on a law suit under Article IV, Ninth, and Tenth Amendment of the Constitution.
We are asking you to protect the citizens of Texas that we will not stand for government controlled healthcare in our state.
Under your leadership we can effectively kill the proposal of this administration and allow Texas to be a state free from socialism and collectivism.
Be the voice of reason in the national debate and allow Texans the ability to solve the problems of our state.
Thank you,

Facts about the 10th Amendment:
The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) of the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitutions principle of Federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.
The truth about government controlled healthcare:
Government healthcare is failing miserably in Massachusetts

Obamas health policy advisers should take a good look at the smoldering wreckage in the Bay State before trying to impose any such universal coverage on the rest of the nation. Link http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/Universal_coverage_First_look_at_the_disaster_in_Massachusetts_011109.html
