There was a reason the CSA had the states they had. Similar culture and mindsets. AK fits in as well.

Well, it is our job to take care of the thumb suckers. They are too easily fooled by the dim/media/socialists/control freaks. This is for thier future. They haven’t gotten to that point of thinking past the next week.

“I believe they just never dreamed of career politicians.”

They probably also didn’t figure on the decent salary and the extraordinary lifetime benefits - or a life span of 70+ years either!

Actually, I think Madison and Jefferson thought that our electorate would remain an informed and moral electorate. And that said electorate would easily get rid of the bad politicians.

Unfortunately, with the communist control of our education system, we now have an electorate of brainwashed, immoral idiots. That allows the bad politicians to bribe them with goodies from the public treasury for continued power.

One cannot fail if he just repeatedly proclaims his success; such is like in Obamaland. And the people will agree too.

If the American people still consider FDR a success after his fiascoes, why would they ever change their minds about Obama?

But nothing Obama is doing is making him any popular but the opposite. Obama isn’t changing any minds on his policies. He isn’t going to reshape anything.

American people don't believe Obama has a clue on the economy

The good news is that the alternate media is chipping away at PBO’s sucess. Keep up the good work.

That’s a fact.

[snip] What most liberals fail to understand is that their leisurely dabbling in progressive politics and moral equivalency is made possible by the existence of accumulated conservative moral capital. Remove the conservative anchor and progressive societies become dangerously seasick. I guess the lesson here is that liberals need conservatives more than conservatives need liberals (although society needs them on occasion). There is much in progressive ideology that simply seeks to undermine — a strange method of establishing an identity. [end]

and thanks neverdem:

We just finished a 26 year run where the majority voted consistently for smaller government, lower taxes, and strong foreign policy.

May be what we voted for, but it sure isn't what we got. Government grew and taxes increased through that whole time. Strength in foreign policy fluctuated, and now it looks as though all of the gains in that regard have been lost.

The choice between the "two" parties has been one between creeping toward socialism or marching headlong. More recently, the choice has been marching or sprinting.

There has not been a true "smaller government" position taken by anyone, either as a candidate or in office. Not even by Reagan. When I was in the state party I talked to many candidates and suggested they run on that - true devolution of government - and they won't, almost as if they fear it.

We are at a point now that it would be revolutionary, and painful for many, to do it. But it is exactly what needs to be done to save the country, to avoid complete erasure of the values that once made us proud.
