And the beat france too. And despite all the french jokes, france fought hard and dirty, and used many wermacht and SS in the foreign legion. And Vietnams fun secret is they dont venture much out of Vietnam. The foreigner goes there, and it turns into a real pickle.

And don’t forget, they knocked off the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.

Not exactly like the Falklands, unless they were settled by Chinese people, living in clones of Chinese cities there, for the last 100 some-odd years.

We need to do two things:
1. Protect our own oil interests in the area.
2. Keep our friendly alliances in Asia strong. The Philippines, Japan, Korea, Taiwan. We want them in our corner when the Chinese come after us for defaulting on our debts to them. If we reassure them when these kind of conflicts arise, they will more likely be there for us when we need them.

The Chinese wouldn’t be like the Americans—they would use nukes. They could de-populate Viet Nam and replace the people with Han Chinese. We would say nothing because they hold our paper. and Chinese trade is so important today. Viet Nam better wise up— this aint the 1970s or 1980s. The USA will not help them.

They start a war with Vietnam, China would run the risk of never getting paid for that paper. That paper is good only as long as the US is willing to pay for it. On top of that, China would be ruined if the US decided to embargo goods from China, products that could be replaced by manufacturing in other nations within a couple of years.

Look for the price of oil to ramp up much more than is normal for this time of year. China is oil poor and needs oil to fuel their economy. The US can drive the price up with Saudi help to make China play nice. Unfortunately a oil price surge will kill our economy and we have Obambi at the helm so US covert intervention is much less likely. War in the South China sea is very likely this time. http://theoilcard.com/index.php/home.html

So let’s get this straight — hostile actions pending in Vietnam, South Korea, North Korea, China, Russia, Iran, on-going Iraq, Afghanistan, dealings with pirates on the open seas ... just how many presidents is this guy trying to *be like* anyway??!!

“...could de-populate Viet Nam and replace the people with Han Chinese.”

Where does this silly S*** come from anyway? If this is true, why haven’t the Chinese nuked Tibet and replaced them with Han Chinese?

Detaching reason from actual history gives one plenty of leeway to make bombastic, over-the-top statements. The fact is, the Vietnamese have been giant-killers for centuries. From the Trung sisters circa 30 AD to humiliating the Chinese in ‘79, these people have fought like hell against everyone from the Mongols to the French to the Americans; none of which may be found in Vietnam today.

Its too bad our recent American history (Vietnam, Iraqi Freedon, & Afghanistan) hasen’t taught us to stop underestimating other countries.

Yes. What you say is true.

But in a ground war with Viet Nam, China would lose millions.

For what?

maybe true, but i don´t think that china will start a war. ok maybe to reclaim Taiwan some day but without that in general china has never started wars to fulfill their goals or spread their infulence around the region. they use different tactics to conquer so my guess would be that china would have to be attacked to fight a war and this is highly unlikely because you have to be nuts to attack china in its own backyard.

>>>> And don’t forget, they knocked off the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. <<<<<

That is an interesting story.

While the KR and Pol Pot were 100 percent creations of the Communist Party Of Indochina and therefore of Ho Chi Minh (who had personally founded the CPoI and Viet Minh), at some point they started attacking Vietnamese border towns and villages, massacring everything in sight. This did not make Hanoi very happy.

You see the KR had as one of its several degenerate and hidden agendas the retaking of "Kampuchea Krom" (Little Cambodia) which is that part of Viet Nam taken from the Khmer Empire about 1500 AD and basically is from Saigon (aka Khmer "Sai Gon") all the way south across the Mekong Delta and down to the tip of southern of Viet Nam at Ca Mau.

So when the KR stupidly launched a multi-day rocket attack on the southern Delta border city of Chau Doc - killing hundreds and causing great havoc - that was the final straw.

Viet Nam launched a full-scale attack on Cambodia (Kampuchea) and the capitol of Phnom Penh fell within one week. That was the functional end of the KR's reign of terror.

However the KR did hang on as something of a cargo cult hiding in the jungles under Pol Pot's rule for the next 20 years, until the old coots and crazies got tired and in a final little murderous orgy started killing each other until Pol Pot was injected in the heart with poison and that was the end of that.

More and more Han Chinese are re-setting in Tibet. They are perhaps 1/4 of the population now. In time there will be more Chinese in Tibet than Tibetans. Once China becomes a superpower they can and will impose their will on Viet Nam. History will back me us on this. They will not use nukes as that could poison the land for the Chinese newcomers. Lets hope I am wrong.

This war between Vietnam and China would not be appropriate for us to munch on popcorn. It would get ugly quite fast. Consider that anytime there is war over Oil, or natural gas, the world price on these two commodities goes up. I wouldn’t laugh at the prospects of this war. If you think china will simply crush Vietnam, consider that they told China in 1979, that they just beat the USA, and that they would beat China. Don’t underestimate the Vietnamese.

“Once China becomes a superpower they can and will impose their will on Viet Nam. History will back me us on this.”

You are correct. History tells us that the Chinese will try to dominate Vietnam given half a chance. They may also attempt to colonize conquered territory like they are doing in Tibet. What they’re not going to do is nuke Hanoi; any more than they’re going to nuke Lhasa. There are better ways to ethnicly cleanse populations.
