Clearly Ms Packer knows the difference between a 'workforce' and 'labor'! Just as clearly, Sen. Sphincter does not. Sphincter's payoff from the Socialist Workers of theWorld musta been pretty good to compromise his constituents so blatantly!...or did most of them know he was a lib from day one!...as a good rust belt state, PA has 'benefited' mightily from unions shutting down companies, killing companies, killing business, and generally creating a welfare state for decades! Chicaga just got more 'attention' doing it!
that's 'contentious' secret ballot don'tcha know!!!!!!!ummm it may be that it's contentious in PA, certainly on picket lines, strike votes, Union Labor 'leaders' meetings (behind closed doors of course), Plant shutdowns, weekend strikes (when the weather's good)...et al.
while that may have been true 50 years ago to some extent, and that well-worn argument has been used every year since then, for decades the opposite has emerged! Especially in PA, which, like the textile states of the south, unions have destroyed jobs where the union finally forced its way in, or forced ridiculous work rules and corruption into the organization. A business that has to focus on the 'grievance file' rather than the economy, markets, customers and the other vagaries of competition WILL self destruct eventually...Proven time and again in PA.
Business groups were quick to shoot down his proposals, in a sign of how difficult it will be to reach agreement on legislation that makes it easier to organize workers. "We continue to stand in support of the right of workers to have a secret ballot and the right to vote on contracts without interference from government bureaucrats," said Katie Packer, executive director of the Workforce Fairness Institute, a business-backed nonprofit that opposes the Employee Free Choice Act, also known as "card check."
Like or not, Specter is the only thing standing between a liberal dictatorship and the US surviving until the 2010 elections.
Specter is the 60th vote.
