“The fraternity has been forced to halt its “Old South” festivities on some campuses because of claims of racial insensitivity”
But no problem with Malcom X clothing?
KA BTTT.
It might have just been coincidence or maybe they thought it would be a fine way to honor the hundreds of thousands of black Confederate soldiers.
Then they should follow General Lee's guidelines and honor them in the proper way.
So what? The NACCP, The Black Caucus, The Buy Black Movement, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, the Jena 6, Black thugs, and any number of blacks do racial crap all the time. Blacks voted almost exclusively for Obamanation but whites are supposed to pretend that blacks aren’t racial. Blacks are the biggest cry babies in the world has ever known. It is expected that blacks are to be babied, coddle and their every racial whim catered too, real or imagined. Blacks act like only they have grievances or only they should be allowed to be racial. When blacks and their supporters show as much concern for whites as we are supposed to show for them then their may be common ground but this one way race crap is just that...crap! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhh!
An even better one, IMHO, was given under Nathan Forrest's signature:
"SOLDIERS:
By an agreement made between Liet.-Gen. Taylor, commanding the Department of Alabama. Mississippi, and East Louisiana, and Major-Gen. Canby, commanding United States forces, the troops of this department have been surrendered.
I do not think it proper or necessary at this time to refer to causes which have reduced us to this extremity; nor is it now a matter of material consequence to us how such results were brought about. That we are BEATEN is a self-evident fact, and any further resistence on our part would justly be regarded as the very height of folly and rashness.
The armies of Generals LEE and JOHNSON having surrendered. you are the last of all the troops of the Confederate States Army east of the Mississippi River to lay down your arms.
The Cause for which you have so long and so manfully struggled, and for which you have braved dangers, endured privations, and sufferings, and made so many sacrifices, is today hopeless. The government which we sought to establish and perpetuate, is at an end. Reason dictates and humanity demands that no more blood be shed. Fully realizing and feeling that such is the case, it is your duty and mine to lay down our arms -- submit to the powers that be -- and to aid in restoring peace and establishing law and order throughout the land.
The terms upon which you were surrendered are favorable, and should be satisfactory and acceptable to all. They manifest a spirit of magnanimity and liberality, on the part of the Federal authorities, which should be met, on our part, by a faithful compliance with all the stipulations and conditions therein expressed. As your Commander, I sincerely hope that every officer and soldier of my command will cheerfully obey the orders given, and carry out in good faith all the terms of the cartel.
Those who neglect the terms and refuse to be paroled, may assuredly expect, when arrested, to be sent North and imprisoned. Let those who are absent from their commands, from whatever cause, report at once to this place, or to Jackson, Miss.; or, if too remote from either, to the nearest United States post or garrison, for parole.
Civil war, such as you have just passed through naturally engenders feelings of animosity, hatred, and revenge. It is our duty to divest ourselves of all such feelings; and as far as it is in our power to do so, to cultivate friendly feelings towards those with whom we have so long contended, and heretofore so widely, but honestly, differed. Neighborhood feuds, personal animosities, and private differences should be blotted out; and, when you return home, a manly, straightforward course of conduct will secure the respect of your enemies. Whatever your responsibilities may be to Government, to society, or to individuals meet them like men.
The attempt made to establish a separate and independent Confederation has failed; but the consciousness of having done your duty faithfully, and to the end, will, in some measure, repay for the hardships you have undergone.
In bidding you farewell, rest assured that you carry with you my best wishes for your future welfare and happiness. Without, in any way, referring to the merits of the Cause in which we have been engaged, your courage and determination, as exhibited on many hard-fought fields, has elicited the respect and admiration of friend and foe. And I now cheerfully and gratefully acknowledge my indebtedness to the officers and men of my command whose zeal, fidelity and unflinching bravery have been the great source of my past success in arms.
I have never, on the field of battle, sent you where I was unwilling to go myself; nor would I now advise you to a course which I felt myself unwilling to pursue. You have been good soldiers, you can be good citizens. Obey the laws, preserve your honor, and the Government to which you have surrendered can afford to be, and will be, magnanimous.
N.B. Forrest, Lieut.-General
If Lee was as good as his reputation those 90K black Confederates, quadrupling his reported white army, could have turned the tide at Appomattox. Pretty sorry job by Lee to surrender a force of 130,000 like that.
And despite the exaggerated horrors of Reconstruction, the US government was very magnanimous. No bloodbath as seen in the aftermath of the Russian and Chinese civil wars.
I would defy anyone to point out any instance in history where the losing side of a rebellion suffered less and was incorporated back into the body politic faster than the Southern states.
Looks like all the Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhh! are on your end.
Walter Williams has written on the subject
http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/williams012600.asp
and for further information you can contact
Dr. Edward Smith, American University, 4400 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20016;
Dean of American Studies. Dr. Smith is a black professor dedicated to clarifying the historical role of African Americans in the Civil War.
Some books on the topic include...
Charles Kelly Barrow, et.al. Forgotten Confederates: An Anthology About Black Southerners (1995). Currently the best book on the subject.
Ervin L. Jordan, Jr. Black Confederates and Afro-Yankees in Civil War Virginia (1995). Well researched and very good source of information on Black Confederates, but has a strong Union bias.
Richard Rollins. Black Southerners in Gray (1994). Excellent source.
Dr. Edward Smith and Nelson Winbush, “Black Southern Heritage”. An excellent educational video. Mr. Winbush is a descendent of a Black Confederate and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV).
Williams' writings on the subject tend to be so filled with factual errors that they approach comedy rather than serious writings. Take this falsehood that Williams has repeated on many occasions:
"It was not just Southern generals who owned slaves but northern generals owned them as well. General Ulysses Grant's slaves had to await the Thirteenth Amendment for freedom. When asked why he didn't free his slaves earlier, General Grant said, "Good help is so hard to come by these days.""
One, neither Grant nor his wife owned slaves after 1859. Grant manumitted his sole slave before moving to Illinois. Mrs. Grant has use of several Dent family slaves but they were not legally her property. Missouri records indicate that all Dent family slaves were freed early in 1863 and Mrs. Grant is never seen with any of them after that time.
Two, even if Grant or his wife owned slaves during the rebellion, the Dent family were residents of Missouri. Missouri amended her constitution to end slavery in January 1865. After that, only Kentucky and Delaware legally allowed slaves. So Williams' claim that Grant slaves had to wait until the 13th Amendment was ratified in December 1865 would still be false since neither Grant or his wife lived anywhere that slavery was legal after January 1865.
Three, the quote 'Good help is hard to find' has never been sourced by any of the rebel supporters who have used it. In fact, there is absolutely no evidence it ever happened.
Sorry...I was raised to NOT “mock”, “laugh at”, “be amused by” or find anything the least bit “funny” about disabled, impoverished or not-so-attractive people.
While I can appreciate your comedic intent, I find that photo in desperately poor taste.
No personal offense intended.
It’s just how I’m built.
