“Abortion is a violent, destructive act....”

I think you would understand the words of the late-great Dr. Conrad Baars, psychiatrist:

“Abortion is a form of psychic self-destruction, and if practiced on a large scale it will have the gravest of consequences for any society that condones it.”

Dr. Baars already knew and acknowledged the evil of the act of abortion itself, but it was in his practice that he encountered the psychic watershed of abortion, which he wrote had a terrible impact on the mental health of a culture that condoned it. He wrote: “abortion provokes a depression which in our experience is malignant and incurable”.

If Bernard Law can make it to Cardinal, a Bishop ain’t above reproach.

Bishop D’Arcy is a good and faithful shepherd. Those in the faith need to follow his lead.

Bishop D’Arcy is a good and faithful shepherd.

According to what standard?

According to the faithful in his diocese. Do you know another standard?

You are not portraying it accurately. Msgr. Reilly is the most effective response out there. When they started using it in Vienna, it became the first city in that region where the number of live births outnumbered abortions.

Yes. What are you calling "faithful."

Because of people who undermine anything MORE effective!

I consulted people who have lived and are living in that diocese who I considered well informed Catholics (including a very orthodox Opus Dei priest). Other than that I trusted myself to read some of his statements and learn of his actions regarding Notre Dame in the past. It is easy enough to find out if a Bishop is considered unorthodox.

Many republicans thought Bob Michael was a good guy, too.

How ineffective would the Bishop have to be for you to find fault in his stance on abortion?

There comes a time, I think, when God waits to see what we’re going to do. Prayer didn’t stop Hitler, and it didn’t stop slavery. This is a test down here, and I think God steps back like a father on a little league field to watch his son, and is proud when his son does it for himself to earn the father’s pride.

If I had a gunshot wound a bandaid is better than nothing, but I prefer a fully staffed & equipped trauma unit. As long as some pro-lifers are “uncomfortable” with tactics that drive home the message to a brainwashed and morally dulled populace than we are stuck with bandaids.

Interesting how God let Ananias and Saphira make their excuses to the Church before striking them dead.

We have many Ananias and Saphiras except they don’t get struck dead, so they believe their excuses are just as valid as anyone else’s reasons.

No, it's not. The bandaid is useless. What's more, it gives the illusion of "doing something" and so preempts more effective action. Worse still, it is used as regularly used an excuse for not taking more effective action.

I honestly question who are the "brainwashed and morally dull." "Uncomfortable" pro-lifers would be my first guess.

You are right in that a large number of “activists” in the pro-life movement are content to do those things that make them feel like they are “doing something.” 35 years of legal abortion should give them a hint that their “something” is not working. They have even succumbed to their enemies definition of what is “extreme” or “offensive.” No sign, no TV commercial, no bumper sticker, no piles of bloody baby dolls, no protest tactic, is even in the league of offesnice that dismembering a child is. Pro-lifers need to stop apologizing for what abortion is.
