I suggest everyone go to scotusblog and read Goldstein’s post titled, “Justice Souter?s Retirement and Where We Go from Here.” It’s hilarious in the sense that Tom really does try his best to make Souter sound good. In fairness, it’s a difficult task, because Souter authored few opinions that were landmark or significant . For all his supposed brilliance, he did almost nothing to influence constitutional law besides act as a vote. The three most recent justices, Breyer, Roberts, and Alito, have all contributed more to the development of law.
Thank God he’s soon to be gone.

This is part of what just arrived in my email in-box.
Supreme Court Justice David Souter has announced that he will retire at the end of the Court's current term. In filling the vacancy he will leave, President Obama has the opportunity to nominate someone who is committed to core constitutional values: justice, equality and opportunity for all
someone who is faithful to the Constitution, its values, its principles and its history. That means WE must be diligent. The progressive agenda for the term of this administration and the next several decades depends on having a Supreme Court that will not block progress. The Right Wing knows this and will do all it can to prevent change on the Court.

Souter has so much to be proud of.
Wonder where the old wanker will retire to?
San Francisco sounds like his kind of town.

Finally the reminder of Geo Bush’s worst act in government will be gone. Had Souter been equivalent to Bork, or Thomas of Scalia, we would live in a different world today.
Alas, what might have been.

yeah, so Bambi had to stop in to hear the masses during a White House briefing...HE had to inform the adoring press that HE, the great one, took the time out of HIS busy day to show HIS gratitude over the phone.....but HE deemed it necessary that the world knew how HE was so grateful.....and yes, now it is official the Justice spoke with HIM
