SGT Leigh Hester, Army, Silver Star, Iraq, Kentucky
Sgt. Hester’s squad was following a supply convoy on March 20, 2005, in Iraq when insurgents ambushed the convoy. Her squad quickly moved into position, cutting off the enemy’s escape route. Hester led her team directly into the line of fire into a flanking position, and then began an assault on a trench line. She and her squad leader cleared two trenches. When the attack was over, 27 insurgents were dead, six were wounded, and one was captured.
In June 2005, Hester was the first woman soldier since World War II to be awarded the Silver Star Medal.

FLORIDA PENINSULA. THIS ACTIVITY WAS ZIPPING EASTWARD AT 30 TO 40
MPH AND IS NOT EXPECTED TO PRODUCE ANY ACCUMULATING RAINFALL AS IT
DAMPENS THE GROUND IN A FEW SPOTS ACROSS NORTHERN LAKE AND VOLUSIA

It sure will be a let down for a lot of people if they can’t run today - many excited fans ready for the new season to begin. Monday’s never feel the same but the report looks for sun all day so if it doesn’t go today we’re good tomorrow.

Ahhhhh Pebble Beach, one of the most beautiful places in the country. Love that area, almost moved to Carmel once upon a time but the weather is usually dreary and foggy.

My Favorite Brunette, 1947
Bob Hope, Dorothy Lamour and Peter Lorre; directed by Elliott Nugent; Paramount; comedy about a photographer who gets mixed up with mobsters; scenes filmed at the Crocker Mansion in Pebble Beach; at the time the Crocker Mansion was owned by Paul Fagan and was for sale; Paramount had a replica of the front door of the mansion made and used it on a Hollywood sound stage, where a lot of the scenes were shot; location shooting began after Labor Day in 1946 at the mansion, which was built in 1927 at a cost of more than $1 million (building materials were imported stone by stone and pillar by pillar from Europe).
I remember watching this movie in a hotel room in Monterey and saying, “Hey, we just saw that mansion on our drive today!”
