Colonize the Moon and reap the benefits that were catalogued by Prof O'Neil in his epic textbook, "The High Frontier". For every Dollar spent by NASA there has been a Seven dollar return.

Want to Green the planet? Move all Heavy Industry off planet by the year 2030 and power generation and manufacturing can be done with NO atmospheric pollution!!!!

Up, Up and Away!

1) I don’t argue with
2) how can making cars more expensive and inefficient be good for anybody?
3) you need to expand on this point. I tend to agree with you, but you need to get the message out better.

Yeah, let’s reinflate the housing market with more dollars. As if the 25% illegal hiring rate to build them in the past ten years, along with the cheap money from low interest rates and mortgages with no income validation required weren’t already enough.

I don’t give a d@mn about reinflating an overly inflated area of the economy that has largely hurt us with the stupidity focusing on today. It will only increase the problems while engendering RINOs to say we need more illegals to buy the “too many houses available” while incentivising more illegals to work building more homes that aren’t needed.

Our country does not exist to give home contractors jobs at public expense or with illegal workers.

Every one of these suggestions is stupid in the most major way.

Why not instead pay 10 million people to dig holes in their backyard, then fill them back in again. Yeah, that it the kind of stupidity we need to see to help our recovery.

1. To resolve the credit crisis, make all down payments on house purchases tax-deductible. The credit crisis has been caused by a collapse of the housing market, which has made trillions of dollars of mortgage-backed securities held by major financial institutions worthless.

Which was caused by the housing bubble from bad policy decisions promoting home ownership for those who couldn't afford it either because of low income or becuase they were just buying many houses to flip them.

With house values restored to reasonable levels, there would be no incentive for people to run out on their mortgages;

They are currently being restored to reasonable levels from their bubble caused high. Just because a crooked appraiser placed a value on a house in 2007 which a bank used for a zero down mortgage doesn't mean that was the reasonable level.

Let's be clear - this Mars initiative is purely about legacy. Zero wants to be mentioned in the same sentence as JFK in future history textbooks.

You know Kerry must be pissed.

You want REAL flex-fuel?

Produce automobiles that can switch between Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or propane, and back to gasoline.

We have the technology, and we very nearly have the distribution network in place. Ethanol or methanol, on the other hand, may only be distributed by tank truck, inherently less efficient than by pipeline or even rail car.

They were using “dual-fuel” pickup trucks in the San Joaquin Valley in 1970, which used both propane and gasoline for fuel. Most of those were retro-fits, after-market add-ons to an existing gasoline engine.

Zubrin is serious. His only proposal I can wholeheartedly get behind is Mars. I’m definitely against flex-fuel and undecided about tax-deductible down payments (which is as opposite to Obama as you can get).

Realistic chances of passage... ZERO.

Good points. I’m now officially leaning against the tax-deductible down payment idea (although OMG I’d like to take advantage of it myself!!!).

In the short run this proposal would kill the real estate market. Who would buy a house now if, six months from now, the down payment would be tax deductible? In addition, you can be sure that the proposal will be “means-tested” with a cap. Finally, there would be righteous anger from those suckers who paid their down payment with after-tax dollars.

Three more good points against that proposal! My opposition to is beginning to solidify. Your first point alone proves it would be calamitous.
