...which will be followed shortly by the "he's a lousy RINO" phase.

He is anything BUT a RINO.

I do think McCain being a RINO hurt him, although it probably also helped him in that he picked up more moderate and dem support than someone else would have.

There is nothing in post election data showing McCain picked up more votes from independents and moderates than 0. McCain's nomination lost over 11 million votes in conservatives who stayed home and in write-ins, and losses to 3rd party candidates Barr and Baldwin.

I worked on the McCain campaign and the argument that he pulled Ind and Dems in any useful margin are a commonly held fallacy.

I’m with you. The media isn’t going to like anyone we pick. Unless they’re Republicans who vote with the Dems like Snow, Collins, Mc Cain, Graham, Etc.

Steele supports affirmative action. It remains to be seen if the RNC does. I’ll be disgusted if that RINO wins.

“The problem with Steele is that he will be seen as a “me-to” Obama knock-off.”

with the exception of Steele having had some accomplishments.

He was elected Lt Gov of MD, a state bluer than MA.

I hate to say it, but the MSM Loves Steele. And honestly having a GOP Black man consistently on the Morning shows that currently run public opinion is something that is tremendously valuable! He is very smart, far better spoken that OholyO, and far far more intelligent. Now that is not a racist statement, you have to understand that the black community is just that a Community. And if you are not inside that community it’s really hard to see just how ingrained their mindset is. These are people who have grandparents that still tell stories of what it was like to be a slave. This community as a whole has been sold on the idea that Democrats will serve their needs. In reality the Democrat Party is keeping them poor, because they are their power base! Having a Republican running the GOP who has credibility inside that community by THEIR definitions, is a currency that is beyond price. He can tell them what is what and they will LISTEN. They may not agree, but they will listen! That is something that a white person or Hispanic or Arab can NOT do. Steele’s heritage is a bonus as far as I am concerned. I like what he has done in the past for the most part, and he is no RINO. Based on his record with out looking at his heritage he would have my vote.

I didn’t think there were any “whites only” country clubs that were still in existence. How did they slip by the NAACP and the ACLU?

He is anything BUT a RINO.

That's never stopped people around here from applying the label anyway.

Don’t know how to break this to you folks but republicans are not getting any black votes for the next 8 years.

I respectfully disagree. Republicans have failed for years to highlight issues that would pull this voting bloc away from the Rats. An ad campaign that stated something as simple as 'Democrats : The Party Of Gay Marriage' would be enough to have these voters rethinking their allegiance. Imagine three months of commercials that repeat this slogan. In short order you connect the two ideas. Much like Google bombers did with Bush and Failure when someone did a search on either term.

Elected republicans, unfortunately, have neither spine nor testicles. They think this is a debate while the left acts as if it is a war.

Eleven million? Are you sure about that? However, what could be done about it? Everyone is looking for their definition of perfection and refuse to play ball unless that person shows up.

I don't see that it will ever change because we won't ever agree on a person.

Oh, well, we'll continue to lose elections but feel good about ourselves.

LOL - as if ANYONE could ever be good enough for you!!! I bet you Alan Keyes supports Steele though. Why don’t you call him and find out?
