We need the GOP Senators to put together a FILIBUSTER and shut down the stimulus bill down, so they go back and rewrite it. We can do that with 41 unified Senate Republicans, its a long shot, but doable if every GOP Senator gets on board.
Without a principled conservative opposition to the already excessive liberalism of Obama and the Democrats, the Republicans will have no credibility in 2010. Now is the time to take a stand and filibuster this bad bill.
There are specific demands that must be made:
#1 - filibuster against any spending that occurs after this fiscal year, and insist spending be done later in appropriations for next year; 100% of spending should be focussed SOLELY on this year and out-year spending should be in followup appropriations as conditions warrant. Why tie the USA to trillion dollar debt now for spending that will occur well after the recession is over?
#2 - no spending unless all tax laws are extended until 2013; in short, by raising taxes in 2010, the Democrats are cutting the economy off at the knees; they are killing, not stimulating, the economy; filibuster any bill that does not include delaying the increase in taxes.
#3 - No money for ACORN, for Planned Parenthood, for general pet projects that simply add to Government spending; filibuster any bill that has offensive, wasteful, non-stimulus spending; filibuster any bill that has pork and earmarks.
#4 - Filibuster any bill that is not at least 50% tax rate reductions, ie, real tax cuts; only tax rate reductions and/or direct tax cuts, such as allowing 100% expensing in 2009 of depreciable expenses, would incentivize the private sector.
THERE SHOULD BE 100% REPUBLICAN SUPPORT FOR THIS POSITION.
boehner looks like he fell asleep during sex.
At this point, I’ll take even this tiny victory....
What wasn't understood is that this goal was, of course, impossible.
L
I hear the pork in the bill is beyond belief.
Someone needs to publish it.
“I hear the pork in the bill is beyond belief.

See the text of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (H.R.1424) and more information about the bill at the Financial Services Committee at http://www.house.gov/
There's enough money for ACORN to install thousands of community organizers and politicians to take significant control of this country. This bill does nothing more than make Obama's reelection a certainty.
The fact that Obama's using it in this manner is tyrannical. It totally undermines the principles of democracy.
he was...I recall the press release whereby he even asked for a special prosecutor to be assigned to investigate matters around fannie mae/et al...the republicans are dealing with the same politics in the House right now they dealt with during the bailout 'hearings' - being shut out of all dealings/meetings and getting very very little press about it imo moo jmo
bttt
Just like all those (excessive) Executive Orders.
Well, a new specific prayer for tonight: that this bill fails.
everyone will have to take a haircut, he said. He told them he wouldnt increase the size of government just to increase the size of government.”
No, of course not. It’ll be for the Greater Good, or The Children, God help us.
Bingo....i wish everybody on FR thought this way....but most will now start rooting for the team.
It's right here: Read the Stimulus
It's an anti-stimulus site -- the actual bill, analysis and more.
So I say we contact our congressmen and demand that, after setting aside the 32 billion for bridges and freeways, the rest should be divided among the 139 million people who filed tax returns in 2007. That comes to about $5525 that each taxpayer would be reimbursed. I know there are many filers who pay no actual tax, or very little. It doesn't matter. Those are the ones who will spend their refunds with the greatest abandon. Even if they merely used it to pay down their credit cards, no matter. The point is that 139 million people would do much less harm with all that money than 535 congressmen padding their pockets and those of their cronies.
I've never heard this phrase. Is it regional or some Kenyan thing?
Anyway, I'm doubtful that the Republicans have the spine to stand up against this idiotic "stimulation" package.
Maybe the Republicans need to mix things up a little. As in Boehmer stepping aside and allowing someone else a crack at it?
KLBJ had Senator Kay B. Hutchison and Rep. John R. Carter on this morning. Both are voting against the respective bills. I haven’t heard what Representative Lamar S. Smith will do, but I expect him to do the same.
I haven’t heard, either. I didn’t hear the radio program this am—but sounds good.
