Coulter is one of America's leading intellectuals.
Two liberal university professors, recognizing her exceptional genius, recently did an in depth paper on how best to debate her.
As far as her supposed gaffe, she obviously conflated Korea, where Canada did participate, with Vietnam where they did not. An understandable mistake.

Coulter said that Canada DID SEND TROOPS..... when in fact they didn't send combat troops to fight the Viet Nam war.
Now, if memory serves, there were some Canadian troops sent in 1973 during the “mop-up” but Canada did NOT fight in the Viet Nam war.

Well, everyone is entitled to his opinion, but the facts suggest otherwise.
When you allow the enemy to set the rules, and violate them with impunity, well-intentioned moral superiority plays right into their hands. Why do you suppose the Republicans firmly own the powerless wimp label?
I suggest a careful reading of The Art of Political War, by David Horowitz. He certainly should know whereof he speaks.
If it was a case of her merely - and momentarily - conflating Vietnam (for which, in the clip, she later meekly substitutes "Indochina") with Korea... well, I would accept (and forgive) a temporary "black-out." Heaven knows I would probably make a great many more blunders if I were subjected to a hostile interview on national t.v. I've made my share of them here at FR, where I am amongst (putative) FRiends.
But my point is not that Miss Coulter's knowledge of geography or military history is hazy - that's why I refer to it merely as a "gaffe" - but that she does the conservative cause a disservice by attacking so vociferously, and with the obvious intent to polarize, antagonize, insult, and offend. At times, she is as bad as the proverbial "loose cannon."
Of course, she is a self-described "polemicist," so what else is one to expect?

And therein lies the problem. She is the anecdote to the wimp label.
Coulter is the perfect antithesis to a "wimp" and a "loose cannon". She's a "tiger" and a "smart bomb" and sexy to boot.
In my first posting, I stated my agreement with Miss Coulter on most political issues, but pointed out that she is human, and was guilty of at least one embarassing "gaffe" (i.e., her incorrect and repeated assertion that Canada had supported the U.S. in Vietnam with combat troops.)
You then asked me for details, and I provided a hyperlink.
So far, so good.
You then queried me (post #42,) asking When & what combat units did Canada deploy to fight the war in Viet Nam? - a question which made absolutely no sense to me, since at no time had I asserted that Canada had deployed any combat units to Vietnam.
I was unaware that Internet / FReeper courtesy required me to reply to a post of which I could make no sense - even if this is "YOUR" thread.

So, by this point, your tone had become distinctly uncivil, and since I really didn't want to engage someone unwilling to conduct polite discourse, I now saw even less reason to reply to you.
Finally, you launched your most combative taunts yet:

I can respond only by summarizing that in a couple of your postings, you seemed to be agreeing with me, and in others, you were being very antagonistic - which seemed quite uncalled for to me, since I at no time disrespected you, but only called attention to a "gaffe" by Miss Coulter (which I conceded might have been a pardonable "black-out") and supplied a hyperlink - a "gaffe" you never deigned to clearly refute.
I really am at a loss as to why you are so eager to exchange insults with me. It flies in the face of the (usually) calm and reasonable sharing of ideas and occasional friendly disagreements which are to be found at this forum.
Let us please return to polite discourse. If anything I may have said is factually incorrect, please point it out to me, and provide a factual (and, hopefully, polite) refutation, so that I can understand my error.
