I like Linux, but it is not “there” yet.
Installing even a PCMCIA “G” card is a royal pain...worse then Wordperfect in text only mode...
As for the teacher...this is what Colleges are producing today?

My son’s high school science teacher guided him and others through building a website. Although the site was viewable from her own hard drive, it was not viewable through the Internet. I told her so in very nice terms, and I instructed her by e-mail, step by step, on how to correct the problem. She became enraged and hated me from then on.

Although I prefer
NetBSD for the core developers' attention to kernel stability and security, my younger kid installed Ubuntu Linux on one of our older machines. It installed easier and faster than Windows. Everything works great with it--even the 3-D, first-person shooter games.

Oh I have a stepsister who recently graduated from college and is teaching elementary school. She is dumb in a way you can’t even comprehend unless you actually spend time with her. How she ever graduated from a single college course, let alone obtained a degree, is something I will never understand. And God help those children in her classroom....they may never recover from her grammar.

I bought (yes..paid money...LOL!) for Ubuntu 8, it just didn’t do the trick, my older stuff just doesn’t have the horsepower to run it right.
And plug and play wireless networking is needed for Linux to be “there’ for me.

it’s great for students. Let them have the opportunity to use a system that they can understand.

Same here, drivers for some stuff is a pain. I like SuSE, Knoppix, and Mandrake. One of these days, I will get around to Ubuntu.
I keep a Knoppix disc at work to help me diagnose problems. 95% of the time, it isn't the hardware, it is Windoze flaking out. It freaks some people out when I use a liveCD. Is there a Windoze equivalent out there? If so, it is probably pricey like the rest of MS.

observed one of my students with a group of other children gathered around his laptop. Those damn kids! Lookin' at teh pr0n on teh interweb!
No software is free and spreading that misconception is harmful.
You, Ma'am, are ignorant.
These children look up to adults for guidance and discipline.
Yeah. You're right. People like Bjarne Stroustrup, Tim Berners-Lee, and Jakob Nielsen are horrible, horrible people that should be shunned by proper society.
I along with many others tried Linux during college and I assure you, the claims you make are grossly over-stated and hinge on falsehoods.
HUH?! Wait... You.... My head hurts!
Was "Linux" slang for a drug or a deviant sex act back in the day?
This is a world where Windows runs on virtually every computer, and putting on a carnival show for an operating system is not helping these children at all.
Bam! She knows Linux is free and open-source, so she knows damn well the kid wasn't doing anything illegal.
Or this is one helluva troll.
