I guess if he didn’t light up, that was OK? Lord have mercy on us.

Please mark me as (obviously) the distinct minority on FR that absolutely loathes smoking. Yes, you have a right to do it in your own house but not in a public place paid for by my taxes. The White House is not his personal house and if he wants to smoke he can buy a condo in Washington D.C. and go and smoke there.

Being a conservative means two things:

1. I have a right to do what I want
2. I cannot impose my will on someone else

Smoking violates point number 2 when you freaking blow smoke in my face and pollute the whole room with your smoke.

I am not anti tobacco. If you want to chew tobacco and then spit it into a spitoon, good for you. You are not polluting anyone else’s air. But smoking in a public location that does NOT belong to you is NOT a right.

Just my thoughts. I am now prepared to be feathered and tarred.

If he were serious about quitting he would try Chantix. It eliminates the brain’s need for nicotene and it actually WORKS!!!!!!!!!!! No one has told the health guru Pres-elect about the advancements in health care since Nicoret Gum? Nicoret just keeps you hooked. What kind of health advisors does the One have, anyway?

Sure, if you like depression and strange dreams about sharks nibbling your toes. It worked for my mother in law. I've heard horror stories from others. Not that I care. I have no interest in quitting smoking. If the left can have a gay pride parade, I'll be happy to say that I will never succumb to their social engineering experiment to coerce me to quit. If you want a boatload of research about Chantix that will scare the crap out of you, just let me know.

Nobody is going to tar and feather you here. Least of all me. You don't win hearts and minds by calling people 2nd grade names. My guess is that you are just a garden variety A personality. You understandably hate stinky smoke. It doesn't smell like roses.

I'm here to help you and provide a public service for a fee. I am a fully trained psychologist specializing in Nanny State Behavior Syndrome (NSBS). This liberal, left wing, social engineering disease is horrible and can strike anyone at anytime. It can even strike Conservatives who believe in free markets and limited government.

Thankfully, Dr. Feel (a wholly owned subsiduary of Dr. Phil) is here to help you work through your problems.

Please answer the questionaire below, so I know how best to treat you. And please have your insurance card ready for the wallet biopsy. This is a Capitalist country and I don't work for free.

I discriminate against smokers because:

A. The smell of smoke is icky and yucky, it makes my hair and clothes stink and I hate walking into a bar/restaurant where people are smoking. So rather than take advantage of the free market and go somewhere that is voluntarily smoke free, I would rather use the power of the state to impose my personal preference on my fellow citizens.

A1. My __________ (choose one: Dad, Mom, Uncle, Aunt, Grandfather, Grandmother, older sister, brother, babysitter, next door neighbor, mailman) abused me by smoking ________(choose one: Marlboro, Merit, Kool, crack, Camel, Kent, marijuana) in the __________ (choose one: house, car, bar, juvenile detention center) when I was a kid.

B. My beloved ___________ (choose one: husband, wife, father, mother, brother, sister, nephew, niece, uncle, aunt, maid, dog, cat, goldfish, gay lover) died from _________(choose one: cancer, heart disease, emphysema, car crash, train wreck, terrorist attack, sting ray) because of their smoking.

C. I smoked for _____ (years) and now I am ________ (choose one: missing it, sick, dead, born again, enlightened, ashamed of myself, if I can't do it, nobody can) and want to share my experience with others.

D. The Big Tobacco companies are lying scumbags and must pay! (you're not coming down off the mountain with the tablets there)

E. I represent Big Pharmaceutical interests that benefit from the anti-smoking movement because it increases the sales of our Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) products.

F. I am a deeply caring individual in the mold of Mother Theresa and I am speaking out due to my benevolent, philanthropic, altruistic concern about the health of my fellow man.

G. I am a research scientist and grant junky, and if I don't tow the party line my grant money will disappear.

H. I'm just a garden variety Fascist and Totalitarian and get a ______ (choose one: cheap thrill, natural high, erection, orgasm) by imposing my will on other people.

I. I am a retard who believes in bogus studies, junk science, the Easter Bunny and the Toothfairy. I fear that because I walked into a bar on Spring Break in 1987, and was exposed to Second Hand Smoke I now suffer from ______(choose one: AIDS, Herpes, Athletes Foot, Jock Itch, male pattern baldness, or genital warts)

J. I am a disgruntled, prissy and angry employee of a ______(choose one: bar, restaurant, club, casino) who can't leave the job because I am a _______(choose one: slave, indentured servant, sweatshop laborer, illegal immigrant) and had no idea there was smoking going on in the place before I took the job.

K. An elected public serpent, serving as a _____ (choose one: State Assemblywoman, Senator, Freeholder, city councilman, mayor) and I have failed miserably in my job and trying to tackle really tough problems like _____ (choose one: gang violence, income taxes, property taxes, crime, corruption), so I will support a smoking ban based on the talking points and literature that "M" has given me and claim that I have actually accomplished something to help my constituents.

L. A Socialist liberal Democrat who is desperate for Universal Healthcare so the proletariet will continue to keep me in power. But if I don't do something about the "demand side" health care costs caused by such global health menaces as _________ (choose one: Marlboro, Merit, Kool, Big Macs, Whoppers, Chicken McNuggets, Budweiser, Coors, Jack Daniels) my health care entitlement program will go ________ (choose your adjective: broke, belly up, bankrupt, insolvent).

M. A professional anti-tobacco activist who makes $450,000 per year. MY GOAL IS TO REDUCE SMOKING RATES FROM 25% TO BELOW 10%. KICKING THEM OUT OF THEIR FAVORITE BAR AND RESTAURANT IS JUST A SMALL STEP TO COERCE THEM TO QUIT. I DON'T EVEN BELIEVE THE SHS NONSENSE MYSELF! Don't you dare try to ban cigarettes, if you do I will have to go back to my previous job ______(choose one: prostitute, drug dealer, pimp, state assemblyman, mayor) where I won't make nearly as much money and the bank will foreclose on my seaside villa and repo my _______(choose one: Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Hummer, Infiniti, Acura,Jaguar, Volvo, Bentley). I take advantage of the prejudices of categories A-L above to accomplish my goal.

N. I am a Religious Fundamentalist who believes that smoking is strictly forbidden in the ______(choose one: Qu'ran, Bible, Torah, Old Testament, New Testament, David Wells' autobiography "Perfect I'm Not", Hustler Magazine)

O. I don't fit any of the above categories, I just like to argue with people.

Chantix works yes, but the side effects can be horrific.
Was doing so good on it for 3 weeks, no desire to smoke. Then I woke up one day feeling like I had been hit by a train. Every joint hurt. Doctor stopped them and it took a while to be able to move around normal and pain free.

Eric

Thank you for your reply. I think I was quite careful not to call anyone any names. Everyone has a right to do what they want and also everyone (like me) has a right to not have someone else’s wishes imposed on me. True conservative thought, in my opinion.

I love your questionairre. But it is a bit defective in the sense that it only talks about private property rights. I had made in clear in the first sentence of my post that I feel you have a right to do whatever you want in the privacy of your home or any private property you own.

My post was strictly about public places funded by the taxpayer. That includes the White House, the public parks, public library, City Hall and other public places that I frequent that neither you own nor I own but the taxpayers as a whole own. Having you smoke over there and pollute the air for me and the 80% of Americans who dont smoke is not a right you have.

That would be no different that you saying that you have the right to pass wind in someones face in city hall.

When was the last time someone blew smoke in your face? 1962?

I dont like people who exhale in the same room as me when they have something contagious.

Chantix, which is used to help smokers quit cigarettes, has been linked to 55 suicides and may cause known psychological disturbances, like extremely aggressive or erratic behavior.

The FDA has been growing concerned by potentially life threatening Chantix side effects that include suicidal thoughts. In fact, one of the many dangers of Chantix appears to be the onset of suicidal tendencies within days or weeks of taking the smoking cessation pill. Likewise, people with a prior history of mental disorders are prone to be adversely affected by Chantix side effects.

http://www.articlesbase.com/health-articles/the-numerous-dangers-of-chantix-364410.html

I smoke & thought about quitting. I looked into Chantix & my doctor told me NO. Just stop on your own. When I decide to stop I will do it cold turkey. With the info above I wouldn't want O using that drug at all because who knows what it could make him do & how it might affect we the people.

When? :) About every week. I take my kid to the local park (city funded) and dads blow smoke right there on the bleachers choking the rest of us.

Now, why can’t these dads just do what the rest of the planet does? Why cant they get a nice Cigar and a snifter of Whisky and smoke on their patio in their backyard.

Why the baseball diamonds for the little kiddos?

Dr. Feel understands. I feel your pain. Smoke annoys a lot of people. I'm annoyed by loud rap music but I don't want it banned everywhere. I just don't go to places that play it.

I can "cure" you in 5 seconds. You would not object to a place where only adults who smoke choose to gather and work in, right? Even at the height of racial discrimination when there were restaurants that said "Whites Only", the Gubmint at least let the discriminated have their own bars and restaurants.

That's not what is going on here. This is a social engineering experiment to coerce smokers to quit from the highest levels by making smoking socially unacceptable. In other words. Lucy and Ricky and "I Love Lucy" should be rated R for smoking, while "Will and Grace" and shows that promote a gay lifestyle are OK. Gratuitous violence is OK.

I think you get it now. You are cured. Right?

While smokers pay “sin” taxes (an utterly stupid thing that I despise whether it is for tobacco or liquor), they are nowhere near what you think they are.

Estimates for total tobacco taxes (federal and local) are about $14 billion a year or less than what the stupid carmakers are getting in this month’s bailout.

It is money but not a LOT of money. The myth of tobacco taxes outpaces the reality

Eric,

Please once again read my post. NEVER have I said I support dumb Goverment initiatives that ban smoking in your house etc etc etc. I SUPPORT Private Property rights.

The topic at hand is Bam’s smoking in the White House, which is public property. My posts have faithfully remained focused on public property alone.

And btw, if some idiot wants to play rap music in the city parks he should be banned too.
