Well, I can’t help what lesbians drive. A Subaru outback with studded tires is just the right car to get me from my garage to the dirt road when there’s 6 inches of snow in my driveway, a large drift at the end from the town plow, and I haven’t had time to clear anything before I need to get out. If that’s what turns lesbians on, there’s no accounting for tastes.

“Subaru....the choice of lesbians.”

Not just any Subaru but a Subaru plastered with anti-Bush bumperstickers.

I have relatives in Maine. Very conservative Subaru owners since the '70s. They live in far northern Aroostook County. The Subaru does the job, and there isn't an "out" gay person within 200 miles.

Too bad the weather and employment situations are so bad; otherwise I'd live there.

I’ve seen lots of them in the Northeast. And, no doubt, many of the drivers are neither gay or liberal. But, as you know, in central Ohio, most female outback drivers are either lesbian or very liberal, or both.

Yep, the equal sign is another popular sticker for the local Suburu driver. :)

LOL! But there are exceptions to every rule. I tease a female coworker of mine, from London, OH who drives one. She's conservative, a hunter and avid shooter. She grew up in St. Clairsville, OH and was totally unaware of the Subaru stigma until I told her.

Oh, and BTW, she's hot ;-)

I'm still driving my '01 Toyota Sienna minivan. 150,000miles. Got the 1st transmission replacement at 3 weeks post purchase date (bought it brand new off the lot). I was smart to buy the extended warranty on this baby because in addition to that transmission change, I've had 3 more. The engine light has NEVER gone off. When it does...I worry. But, it's never left me stranded on the side of the road and never acted "sick." Just the engine light would come on and the car people said..."New transmission." I'm convinced it's a vapor leak issue.

The other car is a Chevy truck. It's an early 90's model. Bought it used from a friend. I hate Chevy....the cars just look and sound cheap. If I had to pick between the Big 3...I'd either go with Saturn or Ford.

I saw one of those Scions the other day with a Window decal that read:

“Hummer Escape Pod”

LOL

"Suburu"

I think the Suburu company should put leftist decals on the car on delivery to save the buyers the trouble of plastering their vehicle with their leftist slogans. Practically every Suburu I see has leftist decals covering the entire rear of their cars. Should I assume that if I don't see a Suburu rear end covered with decals, the driver might be a Republican? (smirk)

LOL. I totally forgot about the new transmission we received, too. After we sold the van, the buyers called us a month later and said that the van had a used transmission in it. The dealer charged us for a new transmission. We never did sort that out. We unloaded it with 90k on the clock and I’ve never been so happy to get rid of a car. Except maybe our two Volvo 740s - one sedan and one station wagon. Fantastic performance, handling, acceleration (turbo), comfort and braking — but reliability was the worst I’ve ever experienced.

We’ve got a ‘95 Explorer with 150k and a ‘03 Expedition with 90k — both have been incredibly good and very few repairs. They just run and run. Much better in quality and reliability than the ‘00 German Jetta we’ve got, the Japanese Sienna and the Swedish Volvos.

In 1980, I was in a carload of commercial real estate agents in a downtown Seattle office. We were doing our weekly tour of recent listings and headed for one of our listings on the top of Queen Anne Hill. On our way I was talking about older volvos being driven by liberals and the acompanying bumperstickers to seal the deal. They were all accusing me of stereotyping (it was before the phrase "PC" existed) so I bet every one of them (four of them) that the next older (3+ years old) volvo we saw would have a liberal bumper sticker. So now the search was on for the first volvo. We got about four blocks off the main road and there before our eyes on one of the residential streets was a five year old volvo - the car upon which lunches would be bought.

It had EIGHT liberal bumper stickers plastered on the bumper and the back of the trunk! I don't remember all of them except that among them there was a greenpeace sticker and an "I support the ERA" (remember that one?).

My take on stereotyping is summed up here:

Nope. It is what I drive, and it had a big fat sarah palin sticker on the back.

A lot of conservatives drive those. In fact, the car is a marketing failure. It was supposed to be for hip 20 somethings who wanted something “different”, but us old guys saw it for what it was: lots of room, good handling, incredible practicality.

Problem is, it destroyed their “young, hip and on the edge” marketing campaign. If they could have, they would probably have kept us old guys from buying them. It was an image destroyer. It killed the demographic targeting.

I have five friends that have them. Oh and one is a couple. They sat in mine a month after I bought it and two weeks late they BOTH had one (which really makes six xb’s. Three of us are musicians and it is PERFECT four gigging. All five of us are very, VERY conservative.

To top it off, we live in the ultra liberal Seattle area.

If you’re in the Bellevue/Newcastle area, mine is the white one with the House of Blues, Pink Floyd and “Earnest Tubb record stores” bumper stickers on the back window. Yeah, it’s immature. So what are you going to do about it, PUNK! ;)

I have a friend that has been selling cars for 30 years, mostly german brands.

He said the main large minority emographic groups for the new beetles is middle aged women and homosexual men. He said the main “large minority” demographic for Subaru is lesbians.

I’ve found both to be true.

ALthough Clintonh8r is right, my first new car was a 1977 Subaru DL. I drove it 11 years, put 138k miles on it, and NEVER replaced the battery!

I kept all receipts and, after subtracting what I sold it for used, I added up all costs, including brakes, tires, oil, spark plugs, maintenence (valve adjustments) gas, insurance, license, etc.

The car cost me $.065 per mile! That is six and one half cents a mile!

Around north Texas the leftists drive just about everything, but are generally identifiable by the worst driving in the world well before you're close enough to read any stickers. The bumper stickers merely serve to confirm one's earlier assumption about their political affiliation.

As for my wife and I, she drives a 2009 Honda Pilot with the 3.5L V6 and I drive a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Megacab 4x4 with the 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel. I believe Honda builds the Pilot in Alabama. Dodge builds the Megacab, along with some other heavy duty models, in Mexico but I have mixed feelings about this practice.

Relax. I'm just indulging in stereotypes.

If you're a conservative, more power to you.

Lib cars like Scions usually have lib stickers on them and the drivers look oh so righteous.

I'm a right wing gun nut and I have that mental urge to pull a gun to put them out of my misery, but I don't, because guns are for self defense.
