Contamination may be the issue. But a submarine reactor is no where near the size of a commercial reactor obviously, and the submarine hull would be an effective containment vessel. So I don’t see there being catastrophic contamination. And I’m not sure about Soviet/Russian subs, but at least on American submarines, there is no hatch from the reactor compartment to directly outside the hull.

I looked up Soviet submarine accidents, and the closest one that I could find to the Carolinas that had a reactor incident is K-219. It initially had an explosion and fire in one of its ballistic missiles, then one of the reactors would not shut down until a 19 year old sacrificed his life to do it manually. However, this occurred 680 miles north east of Bermuda. This occured the same year as Chernobyl.

The closest incident to South Carolina was when the K-324 fouled its screw on a towed sonar array pulled by the USS McCloy. This was 282 miles west of Bermuda in 1983. K-324 had to be towed to Cuba for repairs, but there were no reactor issues.

“The Russians have not had good luck ...”

Luck doesn’t have much to do with it. Their submarines are deathtraps because of design and maintenance failures.

The Season 7 Episode 2 was about a Russian sub attempting to tap into a transaltantic cable in an attempt to disrupt British communications.

The US actually did that between the Mainland and Kamchatka peninsular.
There is a Russian military base on the peninsular .
The US wanted to tap into the communications but didn't know the exact location of the cable.
Secretly photographing the shores showed signs along the banks that read "Caution, Underwater Cable" or something like that.LOL

The US tapped the cable but the tap was eventually found.
Don't remember how long it was from tap to discovery but it was quite a while IIRC.

Has anyone seen Biden?

Joe the Biden was last seen in the Mojave Desert with duct tape over his mouth. Obama tried to abort him, but he made it out alive, and is now being denied any type of support.....

“The Russians might as well scrap the demn thing and build another one.”

Nah, the’ll just put lipstick on it and sell it to the Chinese or the Iranians. Lucky them.

I toured the Russian sub at San Diego and immediately thought. This sub was built to shot once and die.

Good comments.

Facts are so inconvenient, sometimes.

The Freon that is up there is generated up there, just like the Ozone. The Freon regulates the size of the hole in the Ozone layer, which regulates the amount of energy that goes in at the North and South poles, which is used by the internal engine of the Earth.

The safety rules for Russian construction workers may be not as stictly enforced as they are here in the US.

It would seem that in a confined space, like a sub, there might not be time to don a mask and find the air-jack.

Do US Subs have Halon or Freon Fire suppression?
