Gov. Palin may be as pure as the driven snow. However, in politics, perception is everything. The media, in its maniacal crusade for obama, effectively painted Gov. Palin as an inexperienced, unintelligent, book banning creationist.

Doesn’t matter that obama accomplished nothing, associated with terrorists, is actually a socialist and views the Constitution as an unfortunate barrier to power.

It sucks, but that is the way it is.

Conservatives are just going to have to learn how to favorably guide these perceptions in the face of a hostile 80% self-identified liberal media.

Fact is many young voters want an well-educated person for president.

I disagree.

Reagan was not "well educated", as the term is used in politics. (Harvard/Yale, law degree, etc.) It's a well-worn Liberal talking point that a candidate must be "well educated" in the formal sense of the word.

And Obama is not really well educated, but well indoctrinated. He's an affirmative action sock puppet. He had a speech writer who was able to create stirring prose, but the man himself is average at best.

I would bet on Sarah Palin in a fair test of intellect and real education (minus the speech writers and handlers) against Mr. Obama any day of the week.

Let’s face it...the media and the Democrats will portray ANYONE badly that will challenge them. Jindal will be no different than Bush or McCain or Palin. Republicans get more than their share of media beatings. We just need to nomiate people that can actually take it and throw it back at them...Jindal and Palin can do that. McCain and Bush do not.

I think Jindal will surprise the MSM before the MSM surprises Jindal.

but reagan had a very well developed world view. He was a philosopher.

On the other hand if we were doing reagan again, he wouldn’t win because he would be too old for this generation.

I am not as positive as you are, I have yet to see a Republican with a spine...get out in front of the media, get on camera and tell it like it is. Maybe a few, but not enough, we have to fight, hell, even Fox news is running a constant loop of Palin and McCain camp in fighting and towel wearing crap. Where is anyone to her defense? and I do not mean bloggers or print media. our elected LEADERS!

What I'm getting at by "what the people think" is from being around lots of people and listening to them talk.

Most people aren't stupid, and even watching the MSM they can see whether someone like the "one" is shoveling BS or not.

I was talking to my 16-year-old granddaughter and some of her friends the other day - none of whom ever heard of FR, none of whom listen to Rush, and none of whom watch FOX news - and they can't stand obama. They called him a "jerk". But they were enthralled with Sarah Palin.

Now, they can't vote yet, but it shows the MSM cannot succeed where intelligence (education does not necessarily equal intelligence) is involved. They understand logic. Maybe a little door-knocking, and townhall meetings could help. Churches would help greatly if they weren't so afraid of losing their tax exemptions. But, I guess saving a few bucks has become more inportant than saving America.

That’s because all the “mainstream” Republicans are RINOs. The “underground” ones are the younger and morew feisty crowd. Palin made magic in Alaska and she was forced to campaign the way McCain wanted her to campaign. If she was on her own, you’d see her fight.

Jindal is the same way, only he’s way smarter than his opposition.

Very wise, that you see this. Jindal cannot be rattled by the MSM they cannot touch him.

I think Jibaholis is right - the message of personal responsibility should be front and center. So should driving home the fact that you can succeed better with persistence and hard work than getting hand outs.

I remember the Asians guarding their businesses on the roofs with rifles during the Rodney King riots. The look on their faces said “This is mine, I worked hard for this. You try to take it, you get shot.”

But, this has to be done soon. The young, second or third generation Asians are being exposed to MTV, the MSM, American Idol, etc. and damage is already being done.

Sarah is a far better communicator who can touch & energize the core of conservatives.

So, how did that go for us in this general election?

"Everybody Else Who is Not Conservative" greatly outnumber conservatives in the United States of America and they also get to vote. What "Everybody Else Who is Not Conservative" sees in Palin is somebody that was not a good enough "communicator" to be able to hold her own against Katie "Colonoscopy on TV" Couric and, at least, rattle off the actual names of four or five of the dozens of newspapers and magazines all of us on FR post from and critique constantly.

Does Sarah Palin Read?

How many FReepers could not automatically rattle off that, on the Internet, they regularly read articles from the Washington Post, the Washington Times, The New York Times, the New York Post, the National Review, The Guardian (UK), the Wall Street Journal?

To the majority of American voters outside of conservative circles, Sarah Palin, rightly or wrongly, has become a Dan Quail in a skirt. In other words, a punchline in a joke.

You cannot win a general election with such a candidate.

He’s the smartest person I have ever seen in politics. ..... ari-freedom

This is what Bobby Jindal brings to the table:

*************

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Jindal

Following high school, Jindal enrolled, and eventually graduated from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, with honors in biology and public policy where he was a member of the Society of the Pacifica House. Although he had thought of a career in medicine or law and was accepted by Harvard Medical School and Yale Law School, he chose to pursue a political career. He received a master’s degree in political science from New College, Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar. After Oxford, he joined McKinsey & Company, a consulting firm, where he advised Fortune 500 companies.

**********

Such a man would not be caught looking like a deer in the headlights when the likes of Katie Couric asks him where he gets his news.

Right. The weakness with the Republicans at this point is that we do not have an effective message. We need to create one and be able to make it “hip” at the same time still retain our core principles.

...People like Bobby and Palin need to go these congressional districts and campaign for the election...

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I concur. Helping other candidates get elected is the way to start a network of allies and fundraising prospects. It's a mixed bag as to who would be more effective in doing this for 2010.

Palin is much better known and would be a better drawing card, but she faces re-election herself in 2010. Jindal is, IMHO, more knowledgeable and articulate. He does not face re-election until 2011, thus more free to campaign for others as November 2010 approaches.

LOL (to your reply) - come on though, Jindal is a good conservative. Though I too prefer Gov. Palin.

With a growing rate of Indian immigrant Jindal in California plus will favors both the Asian and Latino community a Palin/Jinal would take the Whitehouse in 2012.
