“Gee, where was Rush the last eight years?”

Gee, supporting the president we elected in a time of war? Did you listen to him discuss the Republican candidates during the primaries for the past 2 years? Was he for McCain originally? Answer - no. Rush knew he was going to be a weak candidate.

“I don’t think a majority want socialism”

Websters: 1. Public collective ownership or control of the basic means of production, distribution, and exchange, with the avowed aim of operating for use rather than for profit, and of assuring th\o each member of society an equitable share of goods, services and welfare benefits.
2. The doctrines, practices, etc., of those advocating this system.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t hypnotised into blaming “big business” or some such nonsense. I’m afraid that the left is the way of the future for these peter pans.

Further note: By selecting moderates, you are alienating your base and not “fooling” the rest of the country.

They are not alienating the base, they are trying to create a new base. We don't need any further proof than McCain himself calling mainstream conservatives "extremists" during the primaries...

I think that a lot of voters, especially ignorant young voters and vindictive minority voters, and immigrant voters who are comfortable with it because they knew it at home (they just didn’t have much wealth to “share”), think that would be just dandy. Something for nothing! Or even, if they can’t achieve, no one gets to enjoy the fruits of their labor and intelligence.

A lot of us, including me, said that this time, until we realised that that one is satan’s spawn and doom to this country. look where it got us for buckling. I don’t regret it on account of the troops-we owed them the effort-but the situation won’t be the same next time, and may I be struck by lightning if I vote for the lesser of two evils again, unless it’s a RINO versus Hitler’s reincarnation.

The problem is, a conservative wasn't nominated... Why is that so difficult to see/understand?

So Obama isn't going to damage the country?

What's the problem then? Why don't we just flip a coin then, instead of having elections?

That’s nice Rush is blaming us.

Unless you have a mouse in your pocket, don't be saying "US"........Since you obviously didn't get it, Rush was blaming the Republican heirarchy that allowed McCain to run as well as those folks who voted for him in the primary....

McCain was not my choice of candidates back in 2000 nor was he my choice in 2008. Unfortunately he ended up as my only choice against Obama.

So Rush was not blaming me but by your own admittance, he was blaming you..........

Blame the Blue Bloods of the party, not Rush......He's only the messenger of truth.

The other thing that we have to do is revamp the entire primary process. Living in Indiana, I am SICK and TIRED of states like Iowa, NH, SC and Fla having the first crack at the candidates. After the first few primaries, many candidates will bow out. So places like Iowa and NH (both left-leaning) will directly influence the campaign. There are 50 states in the union, not just Iowa and NH. Yet they have a huge inflence on who will be nominated.

I think they should rotate the states and maybe have a 3 or 4 state primary day where a right and left-leaning states will have opportunties to vote. This will help candidates get some traction and more time for other primaries for the party to see.

You have to explain what we thought we’d never have to explain, which are the founding principles of this country, the importance of liberty, the connection between liberty and prosperity, the importance of taking responsibility for your self, your family, your community, and not abdicating it to some far away central government.

Yep. And the first step is recruiting GOP candidates who actually believe these things. The problem is, I don't think the GOP establishment responsible for recruitment even believes these things.

It's not about the money per se, it's about the fundamental right to keep what you earn. No conservative wants government intrusion into their lives divvying up their wages as they see fit any more than necessary. Do you really believe that conservatives would never contribute to charity, of their choosing, without the government confiscating their money and giving it to what they want? Things we may totally oppose? I don't mean roads and bridges. It's just like the growing intrusion into parental rights, while parents pay for the "privilege". That's antithetical to individual liberty.

It is nonsense to blame the GOP for McCain.

All people on power within the GOP are saying that...too bad. Step down.

When Reagan is brought up it's more the prinicples he stood for than the man and his actions himself. Of course, you already know that don't you? It's just not convenient to your lame defense of failed leadership within the GOP. Look at what we lost to....LOOK! A party of monkeys should have beaten that freak show easily! WAKE UP.

"I don’t think a majority want socialism..."
I do. They may not know that's what it's labeled, but they want it. How could they not? They've been indoctrinated for decades to want it. We've been creeping towards it since well before the Sixties. Minorities, younger voters, many women voters, and liberal white voters want it. The word may scare some of them-I'm not sure that it's very many anymore, especially in some of the demographics-but they want it. They have come to look towards government as the provider for all their needs, and the answer to all their problems. Freedom of the individual, the right to make life decisions and live or die by them? They consider that as a "lack of compassion", to make their own choices and succeed or fail, without the safety net of government to catch you when you fall. Whole generations have been educated through academia and the media to believe that no one should ever be allowed to fail. I think that at first they didn't realise that you pay for this with your liberty, and now they don't care. All liberty means to them is license, to gratify their desires now, and never pay the price.

You articulated that beautifully, and I agree with every word.

Rush can STFU, he sat there and carried watered for an economic liberal in bush for 8 years and basically gave him a free pass

Maybe you should STFU since you have no idea what you are talking about! Rush was forever critical of Bush for the past 8 years....Everything from the Medicare drug plan, illegal amnesty, you name it, Rush was on it.........

He was also leading the vanguard against McCain's illegal alien amnesty plan in case you missed it and he was also against McCain since McCain first sought the presidency back in 2000.......

Rush was carrying water for nobody..... Clean out your ears dude or at least listen to him on a regular basis........

Thank you. I swear, I don’t understand some who see this as football, where the goal is nothing but winning, even if you jettison everything you supposedly stand for to do it. What’s the point of acquiring the power if you stand for nothing?

Ronald Reagan
March 01, 1975
CPAC, Washington, D.C.

...
A political party cannot be all things to all people. It must represent certain fundamental beliefs which must not be compromised to political expediency, or simply to swell its numbers.

I do not believe I have proposed anything that is contrary to what has been considered Republican principle. It is at the same time the very basis of conservatism. It is time to reassert that principle and raise it to full view. And if there are those who cannot subscribe to these principles, then let them go their way.

Timeless truths are just that, timeless.

You're welcome.

I am in "take no prisoners mode" and I will be until we win back house seats and senate seats in 2010 and win back the white house in 2012.

No more compromising my principles to vote for the lessor of two evils and no more being accepting of fools, misinformed, or non-conservatives posing as conservatives.

We either take back our party in the next 4 years or the GOP is finished.
