McCain has to neutralize the immigration issue in order to get more Hispanics to vote for him;

McCain's desire for amnesty has been going on for years. It's getting a spotlight because he's the GOP candidate, but his love of amnesty has been well known around FR for a long time. This isn't some kind of election year politics.

Besides, why should the GOP pander to particular race or ethnicity or culture? A good platform should appeal to anybody.

Obama had trouble with Hispanics in the primaries,

That was because of Hillary. Now that she's out of the race the majority of liberals have fallen in line behind Obama.

We'll take up the issue in mass AFTER the election when we will at least have a president who might listen to us vs Obama who is going to do more things we don't like than amnesty.

I don't know why you think McCain will listen to us - House Republicans told him what they thought of his amnesty bill, and he is still pushing it and still quite proud of it.

Frankly, people need to get their heads out of their rears and look at the big picture instead of our own little world... that is unless you WANT Obama to win????

Nobody here wants Obama to win. The real issue is this: What have we won if we end up with amnesty like McCain wants, and millions of new Democrat voters are added to the rolls, insuring that the GOP is finished?

It's unfortunate that many didn't care this much six months ago. This is a conversation we should have had long before now - we might not be stuck voting for McCain/Palin if there hadn't been a broader discussion of this back during the GOP primaries.

Ignore the “pure conservatives”, 3rd Party trolls, concern trolls, and attention whores.

The time for “pure” conservatism is in the primaries, we lost.

We have a party, the REPUBLICAN party, we have to win WITHIN the party. We have to get rid of the RINO’S in the party apparatus, and in the primaries. Conservatives need to caucus and decide on ONE conservative to run in each primary if we are to gain power, there needs to be some discipline within the party, some leadership.

I get the feeling Palin is a social conservative, but ‘moderate’ on everything else.

Nice.

Presently, I support Sarah Palin for the White House.

All other details are suspended until November 5.

I am fully aware of this subject here and other places... and this issue was not vetted in the primaries because we never get moderators at GOP debates who even know what is of interest to Republicans and never ask probing questions.. they were more interested in asking gotcha questions than important questions.... if you want an honest primary they insist on moderate to conservative moderators (if you can find one)....

Not only that ... if people want a say then dam# it they need to show up and vote in the primaries.... you don't make a statement in the general election, you make it at the primary voting booth.... like they did this year in Utah taking out Cannon; but look how pitiful that turnout was.... 12% turn out for any election, especially a primary in a general election year is pathetic...

Of course, we could insist on a democratic-like primary where the candidate is not certain after only three states.. or we could actually insist on no caucus elections, not going with IOWA and New Hampshire first or people actually thinking for themselves and not voting for a candidate simply because he won one of the first two primary/caucus eletions..... there is a great deal wrong with how we elect our candidates.... not the least of which is the people who showup or don't show up to vote.

At this point in time who gives a sh**. To start with I see no proof that she actually supports this, as a matter of fact if I remember correctly when she was first picked someone said that she was against illegals. The choice is between being slaves without free speech or 2nd amendment rights under Bozo, or keeping those parts of the Bill of Rights under McCain/Palin. The amount of FReepers who fall for these bits of misinformation are appalling. Go vote then worry about illegals.

I agree. There are many other things. Like global warming legislation, LOST, the ICC, closing Gitmo, fighting to ban “cheap handguns”, McCain-Feingold-Thompson, Gang of 14, opposing Bush’s tax cuts using class warfare language, stabbing Rummy in the back, etc etc.

I guess you care more about the GOP becoming visibly more Reaganesque than you care if the USA is destroyed by the socialistic policies of Obama and a liberal monopoly on power. I see what you mean.. an Obama win could only help the GOP in the times to come.. however I am not for destroying my cou ntry to reach that point.

It would be idiotic to throw away the race just to appeal to die-hard border happy conservatives.. I mean cmon.. unfortunatly for a nominee to win he usually must always appear to be everything for everyone.. how would McCain have a chance if he stated we wants the expulsionof all illegal immigrants and the creation of a wall etc..

i mean it would do real well with conservatives, not so well with the rest of the population.. then we’d be left with Obama trying to turn USA into a socialist state? do you want that? Stop being cry babies, suck it up vot McCain

I agree with much of what you said - we should have done something about the RINOs in the primaries. The problem is the RINOs know how to play the fear game, and if they were threatened in the primaries, they would then campaign on a message of "if you replace me, a Democrat might win instead. I have name recognition and connections, and I'm a safe bet to win, so vote for me".

I don't know how to get around that, because they succeed when the play the fear game. I can even understand why some hesitate when it comes to replacing a Senator. Worse case scenario with replacing a Representative, the replacement Republican loses, and the Democrat wins, and we go two more years before being able to replace them. With a Senator, they have a long enough term that many would think twice about trying to replace them.

Go back and look at the threads here in 2006 when there was a challenge to Cannon in Utah... people here were having a cow: HOW can you think of voting against Cannon was a common theme... well in the end Cannon won... this year he was challenged in the primary again and this time he lost, I like the looks of the guy who replaced him and hopefully he will win....

Yes.... we take them out in the primary, but when we do we need to be prepared to support the guy we took them out with... and we need to turn out in mass to show our support at the general election.

You could use a bit of work on your people skills. Calling folks names isn’t the best approach to convince them to vote for your guy.

Well, the good news is the illegals are migrating back to Mexico as security and opportunity tightens up. Secure the borders. Continue cracking down on employers and continue deporting as we catch them. It’ll work out in the long run.

Of course, we can always sit on our hands or vote against McCain and allow Obama to waltz in. Besides surrendering our nation, decimating our defenses, implementing all out socialism and declaring government sanctioned open warfare on conservatism, he’s also promising open borders for all comers.

now is not the time for your silly games. America will be over if Obama wins. We’d have to move out of the country.

My contribution to McCain is only vicarious. I will continue to help expose Obama for the marxist quisling that he is. If that helps McCain, fine by me. Of course him condemning GOP groups who use Jeremiah Wright in their ads is not helping his cause. The best hope their is to knock Obama out in the short time there is left is to expose his real agenda and his history, not walk around on egg shells.

But pulling the lever for McCain is not going to happen. When two of his “highest priorities” are Amnesty and Cap & Trade.

“I get the feeling Palin is a social conservative, but ‘moderate’ on everything else.”

I knew that from the beginning. She’s right of center and people love her. About time we had someone that could connect to people that wasn’t a liberal, like Clinton.

"JR: Governor, let me ask you, how many undocumented immigrants are in Alaska?

SP: I don't know. I don't know. That's a good question.

JR: Governor, how would you address the situation involving undocumented individuals in the United States that should be [might be?] deported?

SP: There's no way for the United States to arrest every undocumented individual. There are close to 12 million undocumented individuals. We, in our position, John McCain has stated his position clearly, and it makes sense: we need to secure the borders first. But then with a comprehensive program, we ought to have a humanitarian reform for those who are found here. We ought to take steps to protect families that remain here, perhaps by legalizing them.

JR: Do you think it's a good idea to give driver's licenses to undocumented individuals?

SP: I don't believe that we should give driver's licenses to undocumented invididuals.

JR: Not at all?

SP: No, I don't.

JR: Sticking with immigration, ICE has deported 5 million undocumented individuals and has separated many families. Would you suspend the raids until Congress makes legislative changes?

SP: Well, the unfortunate part of the raids is that they affect families, and they separate parents from their children. And that's tragic.

JR: But isn't suspending the raids a humanitarian way of treating undocumented individuals?

SP: We have to look at it on a case-by-case basis. Sitting here today, it isn't possible to tell you about a general way of eliminating the steps we have taken in the past. Not even regarding the raids. It's best to look at it case by case, considering all of the ramifications of every individual action regarding a raid."

Yes! COUNTRY FIRST

Anyone sitting home and not voting this year is voting for Obama. Obama cannot become the next President of the United States. We can argue about immigration policies after Nov 4.

Try to remember: Country before Party!

No matter the outcome of this election, people will wake up ten years from now or however long it takes and say, “Shucks. Guess they were right about immigration being a BFD. Too bad we’ll never see a Republican majority in our lifetimes thanks to all of these new ‘citizens.’” It took a while to see how utterly insane the ‘86 amnesty was.
