The Crown Prosecution Service is considering, yet again, whether to prosecute and possibly imprison otherwise law-abiding Britons for helping their loved ones to die. The parents of Daniel James, a 23-year-old rugby player crippled in a training accident, last month accompanied him to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland, where assisted suicide is legal. In all hundred such cases so far, the director of public prosecutions has declined to act. The law is clearly unfit for purpose.
This is not regarded by parliament as a sufficient reason for changing the law. Social reform in Britain occurs not when legislators feel it appropriate but when a heart-rending case achieves mass publicity and good people launch a campaign for change. Such has been the case with laws on homosexuality, prostitution, abortion and self-defence - and perhaps one day will apply to recreational drugs. Westminster inertia always holds sway until it is overcome by an infuriated public.
Yes, Terri was martyred and Fla Legislator Dave Simmons told me in person in his law office board room that “Terri would be martyred.” RINO SCUM.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- One of the top pro-life leaders in the country says every victory the pro-life movement has accomplished on the issue of abortion could be undone depending on the results of the election. With pro-abortion Barack Obama and John McCain, who opposes abortion, the fate of abortion may be sealed for decades.
"It is literally do or die in the political arena for the unborn, for our nation, and for our entire pro-life movement," Father Frank Pavone says in a new letter to pro-life advocates...
‘”It is literally do or die in the political arena for the unborn, for our nation, and for our entire pro-life movement,” Father Frank Pavone says’
Father Pavone is so correct. Any judicial picks will be on the bench for the rest of their lives (any maybe longer, if they have their way).
It is a near certainty that John Paul Stevens will retire or die in the next four years. I don’t completely trust that McCain will appoint the “fifth vote” to overturn Roe (though his choice of Palin certainly gives me hope), but I KNOW that Obama won’t.
“It is a near certainty that John Paul Stevens will retire or die in the next four years. I dont completely trust that McCain will appoint the fifth vote to overturn Roe (though his choice of Palin certainly gives me hope), but I KNOW that Obama wont.”
And Ginsburg will probably resign in four years, as well.
McCain said he will pick judges like Roberts and Alito, and we will hold him to it, just like we pressured President Bush (and we won).
I’m thinking that McCain would pick both conservatives and “moderates,” but for some reason, I think he might want to show his “maverick” side, and pick Janice Rogers Brown. Maybe I’m naive, but she was one of the ones that the gang of 14 settled for, and now she’s a D.C. circuit judge.
Janice Rogers Brown would be perfect. I think there are several states that are ready to pass laws outlawing abortion, but want to wait for the enough votes on the Court (though I still think that Kennedy would overturn Roe if presented with the “right” case).

OXFORD, UK, October 24, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - According to Dr. Julian Savulescu, the Uehiro Chair of Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford, and neonatologist and Oxford graduate student Dominic Wilkinson, bold steps may have to be taken to increase the supply of organs for transplant. This, they say in a co-authored article published today, could be accomplished by removing one simple impediment - the requirement of donor "death." In a separate article, published last week, Wilkinson suggested an even more radical plan mandatory organ donation.
"We could abandon the dead donor rule," wrote the pair in todays article, published on Oxfords Centre of Practical Ethics website. "We could for example, allow organs to be taken from people who are not brain dead, but who have suffered such severe injury that they would be permanently unconscious, like Terry Schiavo, who would be allowed to die anyway by removal of their medical treatment."

The transcending issue of our day is the intentional destruction of innocent human life, as in abortion. We wish with all our hearts that no candidate and no party were advocating this heinous act against the human person. However, since it is a transcending issue, and even supported in its most extreme and horrific forms, we must proclaim time and time again that no intrinsic evil can ever be supported in any way, most especially when it concerns the gravest of all intrinsic evils: the taking of an innocent life...

CORAOPOLIS, PA, October 24, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Since being nominated as the GOP Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin has made support for families of children with special needs a priority of her campaign. Today she offered her first policy speech on the issue in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.
With many families with special needs children attending the talk in the airport hotel ballroom, Palin set the tone of her speech by telling her audience not to worry about the crying and jostling, saying, "That's the sound of life."

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Leading pro-abortion group NARAL is sending a second mailer to key battleground states after a first one attacked John McCain on birth control. The new mailer finally features abortion as a central issue and claimed McCain and Palin are "even more anti-choice than George Bush and Dick Cheney."
"On their own, John McCain and Sarah Palin are bad for women," the NARAL mailer claims. "Together? They're downright dangerous."
"John McCain and Sarah Palin oppose a woman's right to choose and want Roe v. Wade overturned," the mailer adds.

While it is common for analogies to be made between topics such as abortion or euthanasia and the Holocaust, the vast majority of such analogies are baseless, Arthur Caplan, director of the Center for Bioethics at Penn, explained in a talk at the Lewis-Thomas Laboratory on Tuesday.
~snip~
With the context of Nazi experimentation in mind, Caplan explained, comparisons portraying bioethical issues like the Terri Schiavo case as analogous to the Holocaust are inaccurate. [They] fail to understand the Nazi approach to euthanasia, he said.
The debate in that case concerned whether Schiavo would have wanted her feeding tube removed or be sustained indefinitely in a persistent vegetative state. Nazi physicians, in contrast to modern bioethicists, did not take issues of patient consent and quality of life into account.
If people had suggested that Schiavos feeding tube be removed because the cost of keeping her alive was harmful to society, Caplan explained, their utilitarianism could have been related to the Nazis.

By BUFFY SPENCER bspencer@repub.com GREENFIELD - A judge Wednesday told lawyers in the high profile child abuse case against Jason D. Strickland that he doesn't want to psychoanalyze potential jurors but he does want to know what prospective jurors know about the case.
Superior Court Judge Judd J. Carhart said he would not allow jurors to be questioned about issues relating to terminating life support, saying it is not part of the case that stems from the serious brain injury to Strickland's stepdaughter, 14-year-old Haleigh Poutre. Asking jurors what they know about a case is standard.

She said that she expects there will be a serious dispute at trial over whether Haleigh was self-abusive and repeatedly caused injury to herself, as some doctors and counselors had said prior to the girl's hospitalization on Sept. 11, 2005, with the serious brain injury...

FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina, October 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- Black pro-life activists with graphic signs will be in Fayetteville on tomorrow morning at 10:00 am at 4551 Yadkin Road in Fayetteville, NC, to expose what is believed to be a stealth Planned Parenthood Abortion clinic in the making. Pastor Johnny Hunter says that when he received word that Planned Parenthood was hiding behind the name Tharrington Medical Clinic to renovate the old Pizza Hut building on Yakin road and turn it into an abortion clinic he became angry. "I refuse to sit back and let an organization founded by a racist sneak into our town and set up a shop to murder babies," Hunter says. He remembers that Planned Parenthood built an abortion clinic in Aurora, Illinois, before citizens there like Eric Scheidler, with the Pro-Life Action League knew what was being built.

Why just one judge? Because the nine justices on the U.S. Supreme Court only get there when the officials YOU elect appoint and confirm them.
The next Senate and President will appoint and confirm the one justice who will be the deciding vote on whether to overturn Roe v. Wade...to restore the Constitutional guarantee of Life, or to allow the killing of innocent unborn children to continue.
This election is America's last hope in this generation to reverse Roe v. Wade and send the issue back to the states, so citizens can lobby their state legislatures for laws allowing for parenetal notification and the discontinuance of the brutal practice of late term abortions.
Today's U.S. Supreme Court is just ONE appointment away from determining the critical matters of life. Your vote is your choice in who the next Supreme Court justice will be. Your ONE vote could be the difference on November 4...

When Pastor Rick Warren asked Barack Obama at what point does a baby get human rights, Sen. Obama hesitated and answered, Well, you know, I think that whether youre looking at it from a theological perspective or a scientific perspective, answering that question with specificity, you know, is above my pay grade.
Once upon a time, as an Illinois state Senator, answering that question was well within his pay grade.

At the end of last month, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed AB 2747, the Terminal Patients' Right to Know End-of-Life Options Act, into law. Supporters hailed it as a victory for Californians in their final days because it requires full disclosure of all options available to terminally ill patients, including euthanasia. Opponents, however, said they worried that the new law would push vulnerable, possibly depressed and uninformed people toward a hasty and ill-considered demise.
I was an agnostic on the question at first. Both sides offered compelling arguments. But after a recent, grueling, three-month hospitalization at the UCLA Medical Center's intensive-care unit, I am sadly drawn to the latter view. It's too easy to tip the severely ill toward craving death above other options.

One day, please God, when the stranglehold on public opinion in the United States has been released by the extremists for whom abortion is the center of their political and moral life, our nation will, in my judgment, look back on what we have been doing to innocent human beings within their mothers as a crime no less heinous than what was approved by the Supreme Court in the "Dred Scott Case" in the 19th century, and no less heinous than what was perpetrated by Hitler and Stalin in the 20th. There is nothing at all complicated about the utter wrongness of abortion, and making it all seem complicated mitigates that wrongness not at all. On the contrary, it intensifies it...
