I thought it odd that while attempting to blame Bush at the same time they were trying to give themselves the credit while calling the bill bipartisan and pointing fingers at Republicans.
How’s that for a sentence?
All I saw was 4 very guilty politicians playing a deadly game of CYA.

The Dems look scared. You can see it in their faces. --
Senator Gregg looks scared too. They see a fragility that others don't. The entire world's money supply (other than natural resources) is a confidence "game," and the confidence depends on production by grunts under the direction of an elite. It seems the "scared" ones sense that the house of cards is starting to fall - and the worker bees are not happy.

Paulson-Pelosi bill delivered late to Republicans, Republicans being pressured to vote for it according to John Batchelor on wabcradio. No!NO!NO!NO!
I am so angry. Bush/Paulson have cut the legs out under McCain. They are so desperate to get money for WS that they are willing to grovel and let Fwank/Pelosi blame it all on the administration.
To sacrifice all that American blood and treasure in Iraq to sell out the country to 0 is about as close to treason as a sitting US president has come. Carter was naive. This is stupid.

My husband is one of the most non-conspiratorial, grounded, sane person you would hope to know...
..he a 'just the facts' kind of guy...an analyst...
..and he's wondering the same thing.
Now that scares me.

I agree. Something is not quite right here. I’m not going to speculate, but I have that nagging feeling that all is not what it appears to be.

“I watched a video clip on Fox not long ago. It was of Obama, wherever he was appearing today. When he said we’d have a Bill to vote on soon, there wasn’t one bit of applause in the audience.”
Interesting observation. Thanks. I can’t stand to watch the guy.

Oh where, oh where,
Have conservatives gone?
Oh where, oh where can they be?
With their mouths taped shut,
And their absence too long,
We wonder how many there be?

What TIME was that statement released from the White House?
As the media likes to say- this is a fluid situation.

Somehow, he'll find a way to trip up Obama on this. He has a lot of experience in Congress and knows every trick in the book.
He probably is working on a plan of attack here and holding his cards close to his chest right now, in my opinion.
Remember that he picked Palin. He's capable of keeping a surprise under wraps until the time is right. Maybe he is waiting to force an error on Obama's part.

From the White House:
Today, a bipartisan group of Members of Congress, working with my Administration, reached agreement on economic rescue legislation that is urgently needed to address a crisis in our financial system that threatens the entire U.S. economy.
I appreciate the leadership shown by Members on both sides of the aisle, who came together to write a very good bill. This bill provides the necessary tools and funding to help protect our economy against a system-wide breakdown. The bill will help allow access to credit so American families can meet their daily needs and American businesses can make purchases, ship goods, and meet their payrolls. And this plan sends a strong signal to markets around the world that the United States is serious about restoring confidence and stability to our financial system. Without this rescue plan, the costs to the American economy could be disastrous.
Many Members of Congress contributed important ideas to improve the legislation my Administration proposed. I appreciate the negotiators considering those ideas and incorporating them in this agreement.
Members of Congress will vote on this legislation soon. This is a difficult vote, but with the improvements made to the bill, I am confident Congress will do what is best for our economy by approving this legislation promptly.

This is th 2nd time the Dems have called a presser to announce that the deal is done when the deals definitely not done. I think it's a form of pressure on the pubbies. Back when I was a kid they called this "crying wolf".
To: meyer
I think they are hiding something really big.

Gee, if George W gets tied to the Dems over this bill and McCain and the House Republicans stop it and 80% of the public hates the bill....
{About 3 weeks ago W said, “I'll campaign against him (McCain) if it'll help get him elected.”}

“We can stop worrying...well all be dead before the Rs get to the microphones.”
That’s what I was thinking. According to the title of this thread, there was supposed to have been a press conference at 6:30 EST. It’s now 8:00. Where are our guys?

Okay, that's a truism for all times though. The rulebook is do the right thing, and take the consequences of so doing. The "right thing" is not outcome based, btw. No one knows the outcome for sure.
EVERY one only sees part of the picture. Including Congress Assembled.
The Constitution makes no provision for appointing a Dictator.

They are actually working on finding solutions.
When you are in front of a microphone, you aren't working on solutions.
