My Wife [my beloved Terry] found the FR while we were living in Yuma,Az. She then turned me on to it while I was recovering from my injuries & surgeries. That was almost 12 years ago, & we have been “Freeping” ever since.

On a side note, I feel as though I am among family while I am here! Just goes to show you that your friends can be closer than your own family....

I found Free Republic totally by accident....

I was bored so I went to my local library to check out a few books. I ask if they had any conservative political books.

The librarian handed me a copy of “Hillary's Secret War”.

Wonder of wonders, Jim Robinson wrote the forward for the book and there was mention of the conservative news website and the address.

I read about 20-30 pages of the book( I later went back and read it all) and turned back and reread the forward again.
I put a marker in the book and turned on my computer to check out FR. I lurked the rest of that day and long into the night trying to read every word of every thread.

The next day I signed up so I could comment on the threads and I've been here every day since.

I encourage everyone to buy or borrow a copy of “Hillary's Secret War”. Then pretend you have never heard of FR but are very conservative and love news. Read the forward by Jim Robinson carefully, twice.

You'll know why I'm here. In all honesty, I really didn't find Free Republic, It found me!

FOUND FREE REPUBLIC.... I heard "Peter the Lawyer" (Peter Mulhern who now has the Washington-Weekly) the first time he was on Rush and then when he called the second time, Rush said that the transcript of the first call was on the Free Republic Web Site. It only took a few minutes to find the transcript on the site, but what was even more important, there was a list of discussions about what Peter had said. It was wonderful to know that there are so many other conservatives out there. It is thought provoking to read what these good people think without a liberal filter being applied by the news media. Each weekday morning I listen to Rush and surf the Free Republic. Free Republic and Rush is an awesome combo!

I also found out about Free Republic from the Drudge site and I joined originally on April 19, 1998 FR had the big Rally in DC. However I had to change my freeper name 2 years later as I got a different internet company then the one I had when I signed up, and I could not remember my password

I lurked over my wife’s shoulder during the 2000 election, and joined myself about a month before 9/11. I don’t even remember what it was about, but she refused to pass on my comments, so I had to stop lurking.

I used to post on that other site with a variation of Old Student, and shortly after I started posting here, I couldn’t post there anymore, so I’ve hung out here instead. Generally speaking, I think this is a nicer group, and there is a LOT more to talk about here.
