Landfall recorded at 2:35 CST.
Now the Fox Weather Gal is saying the eye is 40 miles wide.
Someone please tell the weather chick on FOX how to properly pronounce “GAL - VE - STON”, not “GAVEL - STON”.
” Fox just said the land fall has been made in Galveston “
Weather Channel calling ‘official’ landfall at 2:10am over Galveston....
You can tell because Geraldo stopped hugging his palm tree and instead began to stare pensively (in his black leatherish costume) at the seawall.
60 miles East of Waco, TX - Winds are just now starting to come out of the North at 7 mph. We’re seeing the outer bands of Ike just south of Bryan TX - and the storm is just now making landfall at Galveston!
They allow pets now..I think they realized too many people would not leave if pets were not allowed to go ,too.
about 15 years ago I set out on my bike for about a 90 mile ride. I went along Lake Erie & then to the Cemetery where my dad was buried & had about a 35 miles ride home.
I never had been into TV & didn’t have a clue on weather potential (and no internet yet). It was a glorious summer day of about 75 degrees
when 30 miles from home I decided to take the Emerald Necklace (which is part of the Cleveland metro parks.. a green band of parks circling Cleveland.) It was an area that I had never been thru but had the map blazed in my mind. Stay on road all the way to major street which I could take to my community
at about 6 in afternoon it got pitch black out.. winds picked up.. wild rains began... and continued .. and continued. It was deserted in park & I completely got turned around on the various trails with tree branches falling all over & no cars. No cell phone.
I did not get home until midnight.. was the worst bike ride ever & my first bad storm experience.
I cant help but think of years of past when people like me then had NOT a bit of notice on on coming hurricanes.. and still do in primitive areas of the Caribbean. Just broadsided & no place to evacuate if they did have warning.
Landfall recorded at 2:35 CDT.

previously posted image had a time of 0345Z, which is puzzling as this image has a time of 0645, and the postings are only minutes apart... possibly a typo by someone at NOAA?
Yeah... thats what I said.
Figures...LOL
Let FOX and TWC fight it out ;-)
I guess so...
I’ve been using my WeatherBug travel forecast option to track wind speed. I just typed in 77550 (for the zip of Seawall Boulevard in Galveston) and you can keep clicking through a range of local weather stations between there and Houston. Wind gusts are up around 90 mph at several of these locations, most notably the observatory at the University of Houston. Wow, this is awful...thankfully, our area’s locations are reporting only 38 mph at the moment.
1.3 million w.out power
