It is a trifecta.
Whoa doggies.
After reading through most of this thread, I can well appreciate why Hillary said in her official statement that Biden was “the perfect pick”.
From her point of view...wanting Obama to tank so she can come out of this looking like the “if only” one, he IS the perfect pick.
LOL
From hillary forum, and poster says she is a reporter but may all be false.
-There are rumors that they will attempt to do electronic balloting to avoid the roll call on the convention floor. This will save BO the embarassment of continually hearing Clinton’s name — and will (they hope) break up any group synergy among Clinton delegates. This will also allow the exact results of the first ballot to be hidden/glossed over.
-The “paper ballot” at the hotel that one of our forum members reported (she is a convention delegate) is apparently a backup plan in case the electronic balloting does not work.
-The ultimate backup plan is to have Hillary Clinton call for a nomination by acclamation for Obama from the convention floor — thus depriving delegates of a roll call vote.
FORCING A STORY:
The “Delegate Release” story is a perfect example of the manufacture of a news story, the unholy union of media and politics.
DNC official (Howard Dean allegedly) plants a rumor with MSNBC’s David Shuster that Hillary Clinton is considering releasing her delegates. It is well known that MSNBC is in the bag for Obama, that it uses largely untrained media pundits as journalists, and that they rarely ever fact-check a story before putting it on the air.
Friday night, MSNBC reports the “rumor.” The Nation, another early Obama supporter with questionable journalistic practices, picks up and reports the rumor. An AP stringer attempts to confirm the rumor and is not able to do so using accepted standards for journalistic fact-checking, and so it is reported as an unreliable rumor.
On Saturday, MSNBC ups the ante by reporting it as a fact — it is expected that she will release the delegates by Wednesday. Still no verification. Fox begins to report the rumor, admitting that they are unable to confirm it.
At this point, Hillary Clinton was apparently consulted about the fact that this had “leaked” to the news agencies — and she was going to go along with it, right? Hillary Clinton did not publicly confirm this intention. (On Thursday, she had said she did not intend to.)
An AP reporter again attempts to confirm the rumor, and this time is fed into the DNC press room. “An anonymous Democratic operative” confirms it and AP reports it today, with only anonymous sources and no confirmation from spokespeople for Clinton. MSNBC runs with the story, with Chris Matthews featuring it as his lead convention coverage story. Still only anonymous sources.
CNN, which at least makes some endeavor to fact-check stories, calls one of its political pundits who is a DNC member. CNN eventually hears back off the record that the story is true. They then arrange with a non-DNC member of their political team, David Gergen, a Republic commentator on-site at the Denver convention, to come on air and break the story as if he were the source. All the major news networks then break the story. At this point, Hillary Clinton’s staff is forced to confirm the story.
PART II: THE ONE-TWO PUNCH
What will the follow-up story be?
In the immediate future, Hillary Clinton will be portrayed as:
1) Gracious enough to withdraw (subtext: like she should have when we told her to)
2) Finally getting the hell out of the way and stop holding up party unity
3) Still solely responsible if Obama does not win over all the Dem delegates
Where will the story go later in the week?
Chris Matthews already has copy ready to go that portrays Hillary Clinton as having released her delegates only to cover the “fact” that her delegates were defecting to Obama and she didn’t want to be embarassed by the roll call vote. He will report that she released them ONLY to give herself cover. Watch for this exact report.
Be aware of attempts to remove or hide from the camera Clinton or woman-positive paraphenalia (as well as union logos from unions that have not endorsed Obama).
Be aware of attempts to “bury” you within your delegation for camera purposes, and to keep you from speaking to reporters.
Be aware that Obama whips are trained to drown out pro-Hillary chants, to attempt to confuse the delegate count within state delegations, and to put Obama-gear in between you and any television camera.
Obamaniacs won’t help their cause by doing all these tricks to keep down the Hillary delegates.
And David Gergen is a ***Republican*** commentator?
Who knew??
