“She needs to worry about being a mother. Not about running for Vice President.”
“Now my thought is that as VP she will have more help caring for her brood than she could ever hope for at taxpayer expense to boot. What do you think?”
What I think is that you just don’t want a woman in the Whitehouse. (Oh, I mean you and your wife, the lurker.)
What do you think is going on with her being governor? By all reports, she is a wonderful mother. Maybe she’ll pay for her own child care? How would that grab you? Don’t tell another person what they need to worry about.
You face it: she's not qualified.
And extremely popular? Where, in Alaska? Go outside sometime and ask people to name the governor of Alaska.
And if she were extremely popular with the other side of the aisle, that's hardly to her credit among conservatives.
So many unsubstantiated claims about Palin, she's rivaling Barack the Magic Neo.
But hey, it's Alaska. She can walk on water.
“And if she were extremely popular with the other side of the aisle, that’s hardly to her credit among conservatives.”
She appeals to both for different reasons. I live in the northeast and come in contact with lots of conservatives, lots of libs and what I am saying is that a lot of people seem to think highly of her (and yes, she’s come into the limelight now and become more well known now). She definitely has conservative views but somehow women/unaffiliated etc. see her as putting new life into the party and enhancing McCain, making the ticket more desirable. Why would I make that up?
“You face it: she’s not qualified.”
I think she’s qualified to be VP and in time president. Keep one thing in mind. Most VP’s, past and future will not have or be expected to have the input and the participation of a Cheney.
You think I’m the only person in the country who likes her and thinks she can help McCain win? Think again.
Bearing repeating:
A reading of the article tells us that Sarah Palin was a Miss Congeniality, as if thats a wonderful credential for someone a heartbeat away from the presidency John McCain proposes.
We are told she was a fiercely competitive basketball player.
Happily married. Gorgeous. Smart.
We are given no essential facts about her political achievements. Commentaries about Palin always go begging for substance; one almost suspects there isnt any.
So I went googling. She was mayor of a town of about 6000 people.
From 2003-2004 she served in an appointed position as Ethics Commissioner of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, from which post she resigned in protest in some controversy. (Her days as the fiercely competitive high school basketball player were not reflected there.)
No facts yet as to what she was doing between 2004 and 2006 before running for election.
Shes been governor for a year and a half. She vetoed a bill against granting benefits to gay partners, although she said she was against it; rather than show leadership by acting on her beliefs and signing a bill passed by the legislature, she bowed to the black robes of the state Supreme Court; she went against her own judgment AND the will of the people and vetoed the bill.
She cut some fat from the budget, leaving it the largest operating budget in Alaskas history, which she signed.
Shes rather inexperienced, to put it kindly. Ive heard her speak and she doesnt impress me.
One more thing. Not to belabor my point, but her B.A. degree was in journalism.
So...whats going on here? Why on earth would anyone seriously endorse her as a likely or appropriate vice-presidential running mate?
And:
If, God forbid, President Bush could not complete his second term, one could argue powerfully that the nation would be in even better hands with Dick Cheney in the Oval Office.
Would anyone feel confident having Sarah Palin taking office if John McCain suddenly (or worse, gradually and perhaps reluctantly) had to hand over?
Im looking over her history and seeing her quitting a post in protest, being talked out of running for office by her son, and caving to the state Supreme Court by vetoing a popular bill. This isnt a leader. Its a cream puff.
We deplore the cultists of personality advancing Barack Obama, yet many here are seeing in Sarah Palin...whatever they wish to see.
...if he picks Sarah Palin and she ever has to step into his position, Heaven help us all. Im seeing that disaster flick where the person who has to fly the suddenly-pilotless jumbo jet...is the stewardess.
And less experience in major political office.
I wanted him to be our President years ago. And yes, I would gladly support a McCain-Newt ticket.
She sure is cute. Guess that’s enough.
No way McCain wants a real conservative for VP. NO way he does.
I like Sarah a lot ... but I agree with you, Neighbor. She is not qualified to be vice-president ... and I’m not sure she is ready for prime time politically on the national stage.
In the clips I’ve seen, she is not particularly inspiring or persuasive in speeches or interviews. On the plus side, she is pretty and has a compelling life story ... and she is conservative.
I’d take her over any of the pro-choice RINO’s, but it would be a huge risk to throw her untested into the middle of the brutal trench warfare this campaign is going to be.
I’d rather see someone like Cheney in the vice presidency. Not just another pretty face, though he has that ;)
Experience and proven ability.
Remember how he destroyed Edwards in debate?
