area...(ABC News)...

It was a little too convenient that the Russian army was so quick to respond. They were expecting planning something.

More likely.

Pick the hill your going to die on," and South Ossetia is by no means worth fighting for.

The Russians and Georgians seem to think it is.

The United States. Off and on the past few years.

No the US has not been backing and arming Hamas. They have, off and on as you say, been arming Fatah, Hamas' rivals in Palestine. Stupid, but that's what we've been doing. Some of those small arms probably have made their way to Hamas, but that's Fatah and Israel's problem, not ours.

The Frog Foot has been enhanced as far as I know. There is the Su-25k and the Su-28. It can carry more payload than the Wart Hog I believe, and it goes 975KM/605mph on the deck.

The A-10 has also been enhanced. They are undergoing a major enhancement as we type. The result will be the A-10C.

Yes they are different aircraft, reflecting different design and employement philosophies. But they do have the same basic mission. Being faster is not necessarily better in the ground attack role. Maneuverability and loiter time both count for a lot when supporting ground troops. According to the FAS, the Su-25k is just the export version of the Su-25, while the Su-28 is another designation for the Su-25UT, the unarmed trainer variant. Perhaps you meant the Su-39 the most modern version, aka Su-25T The FAS shows the Su-39 having a payload of 6,000 kg, while the A-10's is shown as 7,200 kg, before modernization. The A-10 can be refueled in the air, while the Su-25/39 cannot.

The A-10 is more heavily armored as well, with better separation of vital components, like the engines for instance, but also including the flight control lines.

Then there is the matter of the quality of the pilots. Even the female A-10 drivers have big brass ones.

The Frog, like the Hog, are both designed to do one thing, and one thing well. Kill armor.

Saw them both at an air show once.

SEND STINGERS AND AT MISSILES-LOTS OF THEM -FAST
Of course Bush will let another ally take a beating-he tolerates the Mexican Army running recon missions on our southern border and international courts deciding on the death penalty-the loony left is right about one thing -Bush sucks-he will quickly forget that the Georgians are serving alongside our troops in Iraq-long after our West European “allies” bugged out

Putin left Beijing. Russia is taking this seriously. Europe is pretty much screwed. The general population has no idea how vulnerable they are. Europe has no natural resources to speak of, no military to speak of....they are screwed. We Americans had better shape up and realize the bad guys are playing for keeps and presently we are in no position to do anything if we do no want to decrease our living standard for the short term (Straight of Hormuz must stay open). We need to take advantage of every natural resource God gave this country. Times a wasting. We need to get our collective butts in gear.

I wonder, does Europe have a strategic reserve?

The Georgian military has informed the US that they will have to pull their troops out of Iraq to defend their homeland and have asked for USAF assistance in getting them home. While the Pentagon has not responded to this request, there are strong indications that the US will honor this call for aid from a loyal friend and ally.

SU-24 mig 27 does not have radome.

Actually it does, just a much smaller oddly shaped one. I don't know the function of whatever is behind it. The -27 has a much more tapered nose, providing better over the nose visibility in the ground attack role.

Mig-23

Mig-27.

Mig-27s may still be production in India.

Never said it was. ... these were day fighters. Effectively so is the A-10. Other than the use of night vision goggles, it's a day fighter. No radar. Only IR guided self defense missiles.

This one was brought back to base by a Lady Hog Driver, after a little sojourn over Baghdad.

The driver of that Hog

(then)Captain Kim, "Killer Chick"/KC, Campbell

Bravo for her!

There was an A-10 in Desert Storm that took a direct rocket hit on the wing and it came back. IIRC It cut two of the spars and blew half of the wing skins off.

And then there is the F-15 that came back without one wing (Israeli)

Georgia should blow up the Roki Tunnel and cut off the Russians in Georgia. Starve them out.

The BBC is reporting that 4000 Russian troops have arrived by ship. Bombing th tunnel might still help though.
