Clearly, Steve Schippert on July 30, 2008 article at ThreatsWatch sums up the problem.
The Pakistani government is so divided on this whole issue over giving support to the United States that it is difficult to pin a tail on a given donkey, e.g. ISI, other agencies, ranks within the regular army etc..
Like I have said in a few other posts today, I am starting to believe we may not get a more solid relationship with Pakistan in the GWOT.
Probably most of their cooperation is only meant to go after given Taliban and al Qaeda groups that effect the interests of the Pakistani government. And the hell with the rest of the free world. The Russians did one hell of a banged up job in setting the conditions way back when that will continue to plague this whole area.
I'll believe the Paki are serious in cooperations with us if they allow the wrath of our CVN72 Navy and Marine pilots thumbs up to start extensive air strikes in the many provinces that comprise the FATA and the northern areas.

The ISI is a part of the Paki army-all its senior officers are from the military.It is not the
separate entity that some would like the world to believe.
