Thanks for the info.
Not sure about you, but I find it impossible not to suspect a socialist dem in town for their state convention for this travesty!
Of course, it could have been someone upset about the whole FLDS thing.
or it could have been Cindy Sheehan...LOL
or just your run of the mill nutter.

Agree. Legislature mets next year they can approve the bill and make it for citizens and tourists to see. Boot the Governor out, this one wasn't impressed with it any way.
Let 'Gov. GoodHair' stay at the Lake with his $10K a month rental, when he gets back from France. The Legislature also needs to cut the expense from the next budget and let it come out of Perry's own pocket. Possibly the Legislature could contract for a small apartment on stand-by across the street from the mansion. Maybe the Speaker will give up his apartment in the Capitol.
The Governors legacy will be toll roads that have already been paid for, a 'not so old' refurbished Governor's Mansion with replicas of old furniture/pictures and an agreement for a not-so-secure border. His 'political eyes' are bigger than his brain; I'd say hat size but that's pretty inflated too.
As you can tell I'm no fan of this Texas Governor ... and I will not vote his a** another term. Send him back to the farm.

If I am remembering correctly there is not a center hallway that goes through to the back like many houses of that period. There may have been originally but I don't remember it being that way now. I am sure it has been remodel and modernized more than once in 150 years. But then I was on a tour and it was follow the leader.

Yes, it seems like this happens all to frequently. I used to live in Austin and walked thru the Capitol every day on my way to school, you could do that back then, and on past the Governor's Mansion. It was a lovely place, I hate to think of it as gone. Hope they are able to restore it.

You are totally irrational and self involved. Are we only allowed to feel concern about your pet issue? We Texans can be sad about the loss of an historic building and at the same time wonder why people from NJ are posting nonsense about the "Texas" border instead of demanding their representatives in Congress do something about the United States border issues. This thread is not about illegal immigration. You are free to start your own thread on the subject. How would you have felt if Texans had hijacked the 911 threads in such a manner? Do you have so little respect for history and tradition you can't appreciate our regret over the loss of this historic building?
Can we assume you will be out later today conducting raids on restaurant kitchens, construction sites, casinos, etc. to purge NJ of illegals? You have them too and many of them seem a darned bit more dangerous than Hispanics crossing the Rio Grande. Don't chastise others until you've cleaned up your own backyard. By the way you really should ditch your Yankee vs Texas mentality. We are part of the same country.
Oh boy. That tactless, uncouth bonehead who's been dancing in the ashes and blaming the entire state of Texas for illegal immigration is from New Jersey? That happens to be my home state, but I'm not going to apologize for somebody else's willful ignorance.
Instead I will say that not all of us from the state of New Jersey have the same opinion. I have had the pleasure of visiting Texas, and I know the pride you take in your history and heritage. As a child I always loved going to historical sites and learning about what took place there so many years ago, and to be able to stand there on that very spot and picture the events was more of a lesson than any book or lecture could give.
My Yankee heart's out to you.

She couldn’t hide her bias could she, or is it just because we know the media is 99% lib and we can read between the lines.

Yes, the pictures posted on this thread look like its gutted. Fortunately it was pretty well gutted before the fire started, because of the renovation.

Thank you so much. I’ve been to NJ and I know most people there aren’t like nmh. We all have our bad apples.
To: El Gato
True. On the news they sound like little can be salvaged. I’m so glad everything had been moved out for the renovations. At least those things are safe.
To: El Gato
It's a damn shame.
I may be irreverent about a lot of things, but Texas history is not among them.

Somebody just messed with Texas. And when we find out who it was, Texas will mess back, big time.

Its been windy up here in Dallas for at least the past 4 or 5 days. Reeeally windy. Central Texas too, that's why I thought to look up the wind last night in Austin. That was from Camp Mabry, about 3 miles, from the mansion.

Whether we are fans of Rick Perry or not...he’s the governor of Texas and messing with him is messing with us.

Beer For My Horses (Toby Keith) And that old Austin hippie cowboy Willie Nelson. Now playing at Willie's Place, Carl's Corner, Texas, just north of the south junction/split of I-35E and I-35W, on I-35E.
