Thank you for the information, I’ll look into it.

A friend who went there in late ‘04 told me that the resort he stayed at overnight (fortunately he and his wife were only there for one day) was little different from the towns he patrolled during his tour of duty in Iraq.

Certainly I’d prefer a Republican, but he’d certainly be better than Powell or Albright.

“Two other senators, Connecticut’s Joe Lieberman and South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham are also expected to show.”

This is beginning to sound more and more like an advisory group rather than a pool of candidates.

I would hate to see him get the VP nod because of his politics but Tom Ridge makes some political sense. McCain-Ridge could realistically carry Pennsylvania.

Lieberman will be Secretary of State

I'd rather have him Secrectary of Defense with John Bolton as Secretary of State. McCain is more outspoken against the UN than Bush. Bolton would fit nicely.

So this year, think VERY STRICTLY about GOP moderates from Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, New Mexico or Colorado. Anywhere is may very well lose the election.

. Are there any GOP anythings left in Colorado ? If so, I wish they'd DO something.

You’re the first one on the thread to even mention Duncan Hunter. How quickly we forget the only GOP candidate worth voting for. *sob*

Duncan Hunter would be the best, indeed. But what are the chances of McCain picking Hunter as VP?

IF McCain wins, he would be wise to pick Hunter for Homeland Security or Secretary of Defense.

Electoral Votes. Electoral Votes. Electoral Votes.

You do NOT select a VP from a red state when you know already how close the election will be. People forget that the Bush / Gore context was not polled to be particularly close and only the last minute DUI info release made up 4% for Gore in the final 2 days.

We already know this year will be very close. The selectee therefore must have some claim on EV from the following, and only the following, states. Ohio, Michigan, Colorado, Iowa and New Mexico.

There is no victory in cowardice and that’s what playing defense with a VP from a red state is. We need to play offense and try to pick off a blue state or at least fight for the middle/uncertain, like those states just mentioned.

It will be Gov. Pawlenty.

The GOP needs Minnesota, Wisonsin and Iowa!

I hate to be a cynic but I think he’ll pick Graham or Crist. I hope there is some smoky backroom deal that gives a conservative the Veep slot. The people that McCain would want as his Veep all make me cringe.

You can’t destroy D.C. With such high crime and illiteracy, the damage has been already been done. Destruction would just be overkill.

The Republicans in the house and senate, etc are comfortable being (as they were for many years) the minority. Thus they can play (portray) themselves to be the underdogs, and that the Democrats simply are blocking them from being effective in the conservative issues.

It takes the heat off of them, and they play/say how well they would do if they were given the chance. In fact when given the chance they were more like Dem's. that Reps.

They actually prefer to be second rate. IMO How they go through the motions and effect little or nothing of import.

Very discouraging and yet that is exactly how it appears. All staging and going through the motions while agreeing with the Dem's... as to one world government, immigration, health care, socialist programs, etc..

Hey, we pay rent for their cars (gas hogs) and also pay for their fillups. Maybe the C in DC stands for complacency as long as they get their’s. (Content fat cats)

If Lieberman ain't in the list it's just a smoke show. Your dead on the money. McCain hasn't made one halfas#ed move towards the conservatives he supposedly needs to win the election so whats the strategy? There are a lot more independents and blue dog democrats than there are conservatives and even if he was to try he's not going to make huge inroads into the conservative base of the Republican party that once was. He may be a lot of things, maverick, hot head, adulterer and gold digger come to mind but he's not stupid he has a workable strategy and anything you see that is not working in the framework of that strategy is a charade pure and simple.

Truly ... fat cats.
Why change anything when they have things just like the want?
The live like royalty,
All have made themselves rich,
they have voted themselves lifetime incomes,
they are tax exempt ... for their retirement incomes,
free medical, free travel expenses,
free offices in their districts, free staff,
and actually they rarely work 3 days a week,
they have months off at a time which is a good thing. Only of course they still receive pay.

They make promises ... they do not intent to keep.
Why should they?

A republican rep not even in my district sent me a letter today begging for dough. The tone of the letter, "The democrats are after me."

Well, isn't that what politics is all about? If the best they can do for their constituents is to beg for money (since they've compromised their principles long ago), cry me a river.
