Yes for several possible reasons.
airway protection, the need to treat with high dose benzodiazepines, and as a preventive measure prior to transport. Medical helicopters are usually quite tight on space, and if the need arises to intubate someone during transport, the helicopter usually has to land for the procedure to be done.

They may have had to give him Valium or Versed etc by IV and intubated because side effect is decreased respirations.

the people of massachusetts have kept this guy on the public dole for too long. he has been kept very comfortable at taxpayers expense.

First, no one lives comfortably on the salary and benefits paid to the US congress. It's a salary, it's not a bad salary, but it is just a salary.

Second, the Kennedy's have as a family devoted a lot of their wealth, time and wellbeing to public service. I don't like their politics, but as a model of public service they are just fine in fact.

oh, I know there’s no correlation between his recovery and Senate service .. Look at Sen. Johnson (D-SD) .. he had a massive stroke and is back in the chamber.

Yes, many seizures are alcohol related. Rehab and detox clinics will tell you that alcohol is the most dangerous drug to come off of. meth, crack, etc. just sleep and eat, but alcoholics have to monitored for all kinds of potential problems. alcohol is a serious drug.
