OK, I will accept for now that you didn’t mean to say that I was brainless. How that could not be an insult I’m not sure but I will accept that you didn’t mean it that way. I will also accept that you aren’t here to push government propaganda. But your very weak defense of something that wasn’t really a judgment of the Chinese people doesn’t help you look apolitical. If you don’t want to defend the communist government of China then don’t do it. It is that simple. No one here will require you to denounce your government as long as you don’t blindly defend it. Does that make sense?

Do you know what confused me most?I really dont know your guys's criterion.I don't know how to speak like I'm not Defending the goverment. Most time I am talking the normal life of common folks around me and our life, that is what your cal defending government?Wow,then I'd better dont talk china, but act as a Martian.

My national secrets are pretty safe. lol There are more important things than port scans. I would just like to point out that I wasn't really condemning anyone over them. It was your bias that made you see it that way. All I did was tell the story.

If you want to get to know us here I think that is great. I am all for that. In the past almost all the Chinese citizens who have come here only wanted to spread propaganda and that was disappointing. We like honest dialogue and information from around the world here. Even if we disagree.

Now you are being sarcastic and your pretense of being unaware of what you had said doesn’t cover it up. You chose to try and disprove my experience with the port scans. I didn’t ping you to it. You called my words into question not the other way around. Be honest.

Do you know it is a real insult when you call some people as ChiCom when they are innocent people who only wants to communicate with no ideology?

My advice for criterion of ChiCom propaganda is whether they post Communist ideology or condemn Capitalism,or something like that, not the one talking about society actuality.some thing may have contact with gov. which makes it like defending or propaganda. But its unavoidable if we wanna talk something like that.Everything has contact with gov.,right?unless we talk nothing, there's no chance to find a thing out of gov.'s realationship. So what else way do you have to have a real picture of China?By biased media?

So,please be intelligent and tolerant, listen and see and analyze before charge someone as guilty and kill him.Or you are making faults which we have made before in the history.

When you put ‘all’ in the address line it doesn’t actually ping anyone to your post.

LOL That's funny. RR had a great sense of humor.

Those were the only port scans I've ever gotten from a government. Most were from communications firms. Looking for addresses to put on some spam list I assume.

"Do not worry, the dam is perfectly stable. There is no danger of collapse, there is nothing to worry...oh, no! Allah help me!" (some one needs to Photo Shop Bagdad Bob on the PLA/Dam photo)

Cracks can be seen on the damaged Zipingpu dam wall located near the city of Dujiangyan in Sichuan province May 15, 2008. A massive earthquake caused the 760-megawatt hydropower generating unit at Zipingpu, about 9km (6 miles) upstream of Dujiangyan, to collapse, the provincial government said. Water has been released to lower water levels in the reservoir and relieve pressure on the cracked dam. REUTERS/David Gray (CHINA)

Whether you keep your patience and interest is up to you.

Everyone has a "comments" page. If you click on "pings" at the top of any page on FR it will go to your own "comments" page where everything you post will be and every post to you will be. A post to you means that someone put your handle in the address line, where you see your handle in this post for example. That is what it means to "ping" someone. Your post will then appear on their comments page.

If you are using Microsoft, like me, then it's pretty hard to say that your computer problems come from anywhere but your own computer. That is how I feel anyway. Windows is junk. Someday I'm going to put Linux on my machine and forget about breakdowns and hacking. Truth!

I don’t know about games. I don’t play them. But Linux has programs that use almost any Windows based programs now I’m told. Unless you are playing online games you could have a Windows box for games and a linux box for the net. Or partition the hard drive.

“Are you Chinese still able to get through to US websites? Y’all seem to have dropped off since yesterday.”

I read there was earthquake damage in Xi’an (where the terra cotta soldiers are). So on May 15th I emailed our tour guide in Xi’an and I just received this email from her, dated May16th.

On May 12th, almost at thirty past two, the earthquake occurred, at that time we could feel our house rocking, so we ran out. About 1 hour later, we went home, we got some information about it then by watching TV.

This massive earthquake struck Sichuan province, a neighboring province of our province in the southwest of China, its influence is very giant, more than ten provinces involved, Xi’an has been affected to some extent, but not very seriously, so the situation here has returned to normal very soon.

But the situation in Sichuan is very serious, especially in epicenter, a county in mountainous region, together with several neighboring counties, is isolated: electricity supply was cut off, telephone communications were knocked out, many buildings collapsed, and the roads to these areas were destroyed!!!!!!! Many people died!!!

Our government set up special headquarters for resisting earthquake and providing disaster relief, armies from different areas went there to rescue the victims, and people from all walks of life donate money and materials to help them! Over the past few days, some were saved!!!!!!

These days my husband and I are very sorry! The only thing that we can do is to join in the assistant group to help our compatriots! Some foreign friends also joined in!

Like you, this evening when I read your mail, it warms my heart, thanks again for you concern! All our difficulties will be behind us soon, under these circumstances union is strength for us! We are certain to defeat this disaster!

“That isn’t true. Either you have not been reading the posts here or you are trying to mislead us. There have been very many posts defending the posts of all of our new Chinese friends here.”

TigersEye:
Then you haven’t been on some of the threads I have. Many ignorant FReepers have posted hateful comments regarding these people. I saw one good man from China trying to defend his people, and he was driven off the thread. I have not seen more posts from him, but I’m in touch with him in my private yahoo account. He’s grateful.

We might not agree with their government, but when I visited China last October I found the people to be wonderful.
