I’m just wondering, what did all of the conservatives who say they are going to sit this one out do in the 2004 election? Did they vote for Bush, or did they sit that one out? Because Bush sure ain’t a true conservative either, as he proved in his first term in office.

I thought Tom McClintock was supposed to be the “next Reagan”.

Well said.

Barack Hussein Obama, says of his nominees, "We need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom, the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old and that's the criteria by which I'll be selecting my judges."

John McCain says of his nominees, "The duties and boundaries of the Constitution are not just a set of helpful suggestions. They are not just guidelines to be observed when it's convenient and loosely interpreted when it isn't. In federal and state courts there are still men and women who understand the proper role of our judiciary and I intend to find them and promote them. My nominees will understand that there are clear limits to the scope of judicial power."

Folks on Free Republic like me who are disgruntled about McCain... need to think about the importance of electing him -- think judge appointments and terrorists.

We can stunt his affection for the illegal aliens but it's difficult to dump a judge, once appointed. And, the freaking terrorists will run all over Obamessiah, the presumptive nominee.

You must have me confused with someone else.

I believe no matter who is in office our great country will survive.

Many here claim we must vote for McCain or the country will collapse, nonsense.

I do not trust McCain, if he wants the conservative vote he knows where to find it.

Voting for someone out of fear can never be a good thing.

We will not see those types elected en mass this time around Perdogg, the Dhimmis are really benefitting from BDS, and just plain old weariness with the GOP.

For example, the DNC has 40 million, the RNC has but 4 million and everywhere you look the tide is Dhimmicrat in the House and Senate this election is shaping up like 1972 in more ways then just one, the Dhims held the House and Senate after the election even with the massive Dick Nixon landslide victory in 72.

If one is a Conservative either Fiscally or Socially, we are facing a bleak bleak election in 2008 make no mistake about that, with saying that, we need to look around NOW at what institutions and Media outlets that we can rally around.

I’ll give Newt Gingrich credit, at least his online Org is trying to rally Conservatives and mainstream Social Conservatives, everyone else has their head firmly in the sand which leaves one’s backside exposed to getting a boot inserted.

...or our country's security.

He already has. He advocates open borders and attacks those who want them closed. Every time he proposes amnesty hundreds of thousands of new criminals make for our border.

We are being invaded and McCain does NOT want it to stop.

So Roberts is somehow a “loss” when compared to Alito?

You’ve got to be kidding, an Alito will NEVER get past the Senate that is about to be elected and do not kid yourself otherwise.

I will vore for McCain - he will lose anyway, and it’s better to keem Obama’s margin narrow.
Any party in power always finds a way to self-destruct, it just takes 8-10 years or so. Exhibit 1 - GOP 1994-2006, Exhibit 2 - UK Labor 1997-2008.

Economic growth will be sluggish in the next 10 years, and by 2014 the Dems will be in as much trouble as GOP right now.

Yes, Obama will win(ouch!), and in 2009 he will have his honeymoon period. There will be over 245 Dems in the House, and 56 to 58 in the Senate. Probably, some kind of healthcare reform will pass, some regulatory schemes as well. They will work just as great as Mitt-care does in MA.

By 2010, GOP will start reducing these majorities, fast if economy is in trouble (and it is likely to be).

If McCain wins, the Dems will hold to power till 2020, I’d guess.

Oh I see, we're supposed to forget about a violent invasion of millions that is compromising and undermining every aspect of this country, including our electoral process, that's costing Americans tens of billions, choking off our jails, hospitals, schools etc....

And we're supposed to be worried about some judge and a never ending police action 8,000 mile away? I'd say your priorities are all screwed up.

It's really tiresome reading all these GOP threads begging for votes. The party elite are arrogant bastards that drove the party to the left. They did this to themselves. But I new this was coming. Same ol sh*t.

They told conservatives to go to hell, now it's my turn to tell them to go to hell.

I'd rather juggle flaming chain saws than vote for McCain.

You can do what you want.

We need to get conservatives elected to the House and Senate that will hold his feet to the fire on those issues that we disagree.

That is where the greatest impact can be made but you don’t really see a lot of effort going that imo. The election for President is going to come down to how just a few states vote and which ever one the dem. or rep. that has the most success in those states will determine the presidency for the next 8 years barring a health issue for any of them.

3rd party, write ins, sitting at home in the long run most likely make a dimes worth of difference in the Presidential selection but damn sure could impact the CD/Senate selections.

First of all, the chances are great that whoever is elected is going to be a one term president. Three two term Presidents (with the special exception of FDR and Truman) is very rare in our history. If McCain gets elected and then reelected it would mean that one party has held the White House for 16 years also very rare. More normal for a party to hold the White House for three terms only.

So we hold our noses and elect McCain to a one term Presidency and the Democrats may end up with a two term Presidency in 2012. Or knowing that voters usually want a change in parties every so often we let the Democrats win this election and because the odds are against them the Republicans has at least eight years in office in 2012 with a better man than McCain.

The point being is that 12 years of the White House held by one party is about all the voters can stand. Howard of Australia or Churchill after World War II proves that the voters will vote out great leaders just for the sake of change. The Democrats is going to regain the White House sometime and most conservatives has nothing invested in McCain so this may be the time.

Now the Judges, as I see it the most likely judges to step down or die in the next four years is liberal judges. So a liberal President replacing a Ginsburg with another Ginsburg isn’t going to tip the court against us. If I know liberals they will put themselves ahead of the cause and most of them won’t step down or die in the next four years. But they can’t last the next eight years and that is when we firmly gain control of the court.

Another thing is Congress. No way, no how will we regain congress this year. If we hold the White House then history says our party will lose seats in Congress in 2010. On the other hand if the Democrats hold the White House we may take Congress back in 2010.

My final reason for not voting for McCain is this. Lets say he governs as a liberal but is very popular. That would do more harm to conservatism in the Republican Party than if he was a dud. Candidates would then pander to the Rockerfeller wing of the party rather than the conservative wing.

And, if McCain is elected and has a majority democrat Congress how will it be different?

Are you saying that you don't understand the difference between Clinton, Obama, and McCain?

Just to be clear, I do have a fear of what an Obama presidency will do to my country. His intentions are clear by his words and the company he keeps, past and present. If evil wins and I believe the democrats are evil then we deserve whatever he brings our way if allowed to govern this wonderful land I call home.

My choice is clear and John McCain will make a good president. No man is perfect so I do not expect perfection from McCain but he will not harm our country as many here predict.

If Hilabama is elected, they will go to great lengths ensuring that they will never be out of power.

I've been saying this for a while about Hillary. I should now include Obama.

We're still hurting from the Carter years. In addition to enabling militant Islam, we have a screwed up energy policy that is directly attributable to Carter.

Between Carter and Obama, Carter is the more conservative of the two. And Carter had more leadership experience than Obama at similar points in the election.

Here's one who, back then, did listen to the same "lesser of two evils" mantra that is being promoted now, and got that sorry excuse of a president for it. This time, if McCain wins, whether we all vote for him or not, he'll claim 'I did it without the Conservatives so screw 'em." and permanently move his desk across the aisle with his buddies.

The problem is that if he loses because some of the Conservative base went elsewhere, does anyone think the the Pubbies will learn their lesson? I doubt it. "We'll have to go more to the Left next time." they'll whine, and we'll have the same charade all over again with the Leftist and Leftist Lite vying for office.

This country is SO screwed.
