WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- Cars lining the street. A house full of young people. A keg and drinking games inside. Police thought they had an underage boozing party on their hands.
But though they made dozens of teens take breath tests, none tested positive for alcohol. That's because the keg contained root beer.
The party was held by a high school student who wanted to show that teens don't always drink alcohol at their parties.

I have seen them there. lol With all the bars in that little town, they must have a field day. Too bad they can’t protect the stores across from the station! lol
In Port, we have the high school, so they hang out near the school after the kids get out. I just hope there is never an emergency between 2:30 and 3:30 on a school day.
Now, while he didn't actually tell the reporter (or maybe he did, and it didn't get into the story) they were trying to get attention to pull a "gotcha" on the school, you'd have to be gullible as hell to think they didn't plan on drawing attention to themselves. And if they didn't want to draw attention to themsevles, then they're just plain stupid for blocking the road with their cars.
"I like to hang out in bars but I have never drank alcohol in my life and never intend to. Does a police officer have the right to pull me over and give me a field sobriety test, just because he saw me leave a bar?"
Congrats on your sobriety. If you were weaving and driving erratically, yes, the officer would have probable cause to pull you over and administer a sobriety test.

What’s with the “Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!” after every post?
You think that’s pretty cool don’t you? Did you get that from watching FTroop? If you ever served in the service, you were probably a clerk.
Personally, I think it’s retarded.
nope, but smoke nazi Doyle wants to ban smoking in bars across the state. (luckily the tavern league is a huge lobby in this state)
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
They ban smoking in Wisconsin??? lol I do not smoke but the state would not survive! Beer, brats, cheese and cigarettes. That is Wisconsin. No offense!
If you think it is bad now, back when I was in High School it was terrible(1999-2003)
If you’d ever been in the Cav, you’d understand.”
I been in lots of cavs. They’re dark and damp and full of bats.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
ya, what are they gonna do, send me to VietNam?
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Do you have anything of substance to say, or can I just go ahead and start ignoring you?”
let’s have a serious discussion. Why do you feel cops never do anything wrong? Is it because you’re a cop?
No, I'm not a cop...I'm actually a news producer. I see cops screw up from time to time, but I also see them get the sh** end of the stick when they don't deserve it. Going off what the article said about this case, I believe they were 100% right in their actions. Furthermore, if anyone was dumb enough to file suit against the PD or the city, it would likely get thrown out with little ceremony.
I say "likely" because there are plenty of doofus judges out there, and this did take place in Wisconsin...so all bets could be off.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Is that okay? Anyone offended by that?
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
I gotta agree with you here, the whole “Cavalry Ho” bit is pretty gay. If you’ve ever seen the HBO special “Band of Brothers” it reminds of the uptight Captain played by David Schwimmer. If you haven’t seen it he’s the type of guy that all of the other guys loved to hate, a real Frank Burns from MASH. Total dufus.
I don't have a problem with the police telling the kids to move cars, or taking a look around to see what's going on, or even giving a few breathalyzer tests when before they have things figured out.
But to test 90 kids, every one of them providing a negative result? Searching in locked rooms? I presume the police would catch on after:
-They discovered the keg was filled with root beer (probably one of the first things to check out).
-The first, oh, 20 or 30 kids passed the breathalyzer.
-Noticing there were no other bottles laying around anywhere.
-Observing the smug grins and hearing the unstifled laughter from the kids who just realized they got one over on the police.
So that means the police were either dim enough to be fooled by some punk kid's scheme, that they did figure out the scheme but decided to search rooms and breath test people even thought they knew there wasn't any criminal activity, or they really do believe that a complete and thorough search is required everywhere they go.
Which do you think is the case?
(I should also point out, as others have, that the article said nothing about the kids pouring out of the house and fleeing. However, since I made a few presumptions of my own, I'll let that one slide.)
Seconded.
thank you! I’m glad you said it so I didn’t have to.
So...you're from Oregon and you're calling me a doofus? That's a great one...thanks, I haven't laughed like that in a long time. And judging from your comment, I guess you're another one who's never been Cav, so you just...don't know. Sad, really...your loss.
