Don’t tell me to beware of anything.

What do YOU do all day here - critique every FReeper’s logic skills?

I trust Huckabee

I trust him to bring the discourse to the lowest common denominator and then to begin tunneling.

I trust him to wear his chip firmly on his shoulder.

I trust him to wave the flag of Christianity while lying vociferously.

I trust him to tell me how conservative he is and to ignore the man behind the curtain.

I trust Mike Huckabee to shamelessly promote himself as the new Moses of Evangelicalism.

I trust Mike Huckabee to make a dumb joke at the most inopportune time.

I trust him for a lot of things.

Conservatism ain't one of em.

If there is one comforting pericope of this primary season it is watching Huckabee flame out and squander the relatively meager political capital he had thus far garnered. Irrelevancy has a name. And it is Mikey.

Huckabee is the only candidate I completely trust to support our Second Amendment rights, as he has a longstanding track record as a sportsman and conservationist. For hunters and shooters of all sports, and those who believe they have the right to own a firearm, Huckabee is the only choice.

Yes, of the four major candidates for president at this moment, Governor Huckabee clearly does have the best Second Amendment record, and his rhetoric is certainly the best on the subject.

Still falling for the Huckster, the pro-life socialist, who said that President Bush had an arrogant, bunker-type mentality foreign policy. DOUBLE YUCK ON THE HUCK. This man isn’t competent enough to lead the Arkansas National Guard, much less anything else.

That’s exactly what has turned this USA into a nanny state. It is the government’s responsibility to protect us from enemies, both foreign and domestic.

That's what Huckbee means, too.

Also, the FDA, etc. But if you don't think we need such things, feel free to start a Rousseauian libertarian Utopia, somewhere.

Oh yeah, trust a Milwaukee newspaper to tell us who conservatives can “trust!” LOL!

As the footer explains, the writer is an independent conservative commentator who contributes occasionally to the paper.

You speak of slandering Huckabee by people discussing his record and yet you speak like this? (and the one upthread where you spoke of McCain losing his mind or some such thing before the convention). That is slander.

Hardly. It is the discussion of contingencies -- a good practice in politics and business.

Huckabee won Arkansas by a landslide. He is very popular among conservatives. The more conservative the primary voter, the higher Huckabee’s totals are.

I explained Huckabee’s taking seriously the process of reviewing convicts’ records, for commutations. To correct your post, an Arkansas governor cannot pardon anyone.

If you are from Arkansas, please give us a link to an objective article that describes the differences between Arkansas’ commutations policies and other states that have “time off for good behavior.”

Allegations that Huckabee was a pardoning “machine!”

And one other case cited. Typical.

Arkansas business leaders, like Tyson chicken for example? Couldn’t keep that place open without the illegals.

Then, you are saying in this case, they really are doing the work that Americans will not do?

Show me exactly where in our Constitution the FDA, EPA, OSHA, and other federal govermental groups are authorized?

Quote “articles” that are distorting commentaries all day long, if you like.

Huckabee used reactionary language against people who, he has explained, were proposing legislation that he viewed as redundant to law alread enacted.

I give room for a politician to grow as a human being. Plenty of people’s attitudes needed correction, last year regarding illegal aliens. Us-types were successful in helping those people to understand. Mike Huckabee is one of them.

I guess you’re not, but I’m happy about that.

Regulation of commerce between the states, is the power most cited.

But I won't argue that we don't need to continue to update the Constitution, to keep up with technology -- and to secure/maintain human rights.

I'm a conservative, not a Libertarian.

BTW, in that presumable commutation, there was no report of recidivism.

He has a whole big fat record of being soft on criminals:

___ Here are the figures for neighboring states since 1996, when Huckabee took office (and keep in mind the population of these states is nearly 20 times ours):
___ >> Louisiana – 213.
___ >> Mississippi – 24.
___ >> Missouri – 79.
___ >> Oklahoma – 178.
___ >> Tennessee – 32.
___ >> Texas – 98 (in-cludes 36 inmates released because they were convicted on drug charges with planted evidence).

___ Total: 624 vs. Huckabee’s 703.

___ Governors in neighboring states almost never grant killers clemency, while Huckabee has commuted the sentences of a dozen murderers.

People like Huckabee give Christianity a bad name. He wants to be president so bad that he will use religion to reach as many evangelicals as possible. Therein lies the problem. Many people have religion. They just don’t have salvation. Thank God they are not falling for his scam.

Other states have more aggressive and automatic policies for commuting prison sentences. In Arkansas, it depends much more on the governor's office.

He is, just like any good political leader, supported by those who share his worldview and he is not stupid enough to ignore that "political base."

Politics 101. Abraham Lincoln was backed by abolitionists and free-soilers. Theodore Roosevelt was backed by moralists who did not want people abused by business owners. Etc.

That is a virtue, not a vice.
